An exhaust gas aftertreatment system includes an introduction gas conduit, a dosing module, a mixer, and an outlet flange. The introduction conduit is centered on a conduit center axis. The dosing module is coupled to the introduction conduit and includes an injector. The injector is configured to provide a treatment fluid into the introduction conduit and is defined by an injection axis. The mixer is disposed within the introduction conduit and includes a mixer body. The mixer body is configured to receive exhaust gas and the treatment fluid. The outlet flange includes an outlet flange body, an outlet flange opening, and a plurality of outlet flange perforations. The outlet flange body is centered on an outlet flange center axis. The outlet flange body includes an outlet flange body inner portion and an outlet flange body outer portion. The outlet flange body inner portion is coupled to the mixer body.

Exhaust gas aftertreatment system

An aftertreatment system comprises: a housing, a SCR system disposed in the housing. A mixer is disposed upstream of the SCR system and includes: a hub, a tubular member disposed circumferentially around the hub and defining a reductant entry port, and plurality of vanes extending from the hub to the tubular member such that openings are defined between adjacent vanes. The plurality of vanes swirl the exhaust gas in a circumferential direction. A reductant injector is disposed on the housing upstream of the SCR system along a transverse axis and configured to insert a reductant into the exhaust gas flowing through the housing through the reductant entry port. The reductant is inserted at a non-zero angle with respect to the transverse axis opposite the circumferential direction to achieve virtual interception. A mixer central axis is radially offset with respect to a housing central axis of the housing.

Mixers for use in aftertreatment systems

A multi-stage mixer includes a multi-stage mixer inlet, a multi-stage mixer outlet, a first flow device, and a second flow device. The multi-stage mixer inlet is configured to receive exhaust gas. The multi-stage mixer outlet is configured to provide the exhaust gas to a catalyst. The first flow device is configured to receive the exhaust gas from the multi-stage mixer inlet and to receive reductant such that the reductant is partially mixed with the exhaust gas within the first flow device. The first flow device includes a plurality of main vanes and a plurality of main vane apertures. The plurality of main vane apertures is interspaced between the plurality of main vanes. The plurality of main vane apertures is configured to receive the exhaust gas and to cooperate with the plurality of main vanes to provide the exhaust gas from the first flow device with a swirl flow.

Systems and methods for mixing exhaust gases and reductant in an aftertreatment system

A liquid reductant injector nozzle includes a first portion defining a hollow cylindrical static chamber, in fluid communication with second portion defining a hollow frustoconical converging section, which is in turn in fluid communication with a sharp edged type discharge orifice. The hollow cylindrical static chamber is in reductant receiving communication with a reductant source, and has a first and second circular opening having equal diameters. The second circular opening is downstream of the first circular opening. The hollow frustoconical converging section is in reductant receiving communication with the hollow cylindrical static chamber via the second circular opening. Reductant received from the reductant source is discharged through the discharge orifice. A sidewall of the hollow cylindrical static chamber and a frustum side of the frustoconical converging section define an angle of convergence of the liquid reductant injector nozzle relative to a plane of the second circular opening.

Converging liquid reductant injector nozzle in selective catalytic reduction systems

An aftertreatment component includes an inlet connector tube, an outlet connector tube, a chamber, a flow dissipater, and a substrate. The inlet connector tube receives exhaust gasses. The chamber is between the inlet connector tube and the outlet connector tube. The flow dissipater is positioned around the inlet connector tube and within the chamber. The flow dissipater receives the exhaust gasses from the inlet connector tube and includes a plurality of perforations. The plurality of perforations defines an open area of the flow dissipater. The open area of the flow dissipater is greatest proximate to the inlet connector tube and progressively decreasing proximate to the outlet connector tube. The substrate is positioned within the chamber and receives the exhaust gasses from the flow dissipater and provides the treated exhaust gasses to the outlet connector tube. The exhaust gases are expelled through the flow dissipater via the plurality of perforations.

Systems and methods for controlling flow distribution in an aftertreatment system

A vane swirl mixer for exhaust aftertreatment includes: a vane swirl mixer inlet; a vane swirl mixer outlet; a first flow device including: a Venturi body; a plurality of upstream vanes positioned within the Venturi body; a plurality of upstream vane apertures interspaced between the plurality of upstream vanes; a plurality of downstream vanes positioned within the Venturi body; and a plurality of downstream vane apertures interspaced between the plurality of downstream vanes. At least one of the upstream vane hub and the downstream vane hub is radially offset from a Venturi center axis, thereby causing individual ones of the plurality of vanes coupled to the radially offset vane hub to differ in their geometry.

A selective catalytic reduction including a decomposition section including an intake chamber, with a swirl generating plate disposed in an internal volume of the intake chamber. The swirl generating plate includes a curved sidewall, a first end defining an opening, and a second end. The curved sidewall is oriented substantially normal to the direction of an intake flow of exhaust gas and a convex surface of the curved sidewall is oriented to face the direction of the intake flow. The swirl generating plate is configured to divide the intake flow into a first flow portion flowing through the opening, a second and a third flow portion which are directed substantially normal to the direction of intake flow and the flow direction of the first flow portion, and in opposite directions to each other towards a backwall of the intake chamber so as to create opposing swirls.

Selective catalytic reduction with integrated decomposition chamber with exhaust flow swirl generating design

A system and method for providing a selective catalytic reduction system with a doser mounting system. A mounting plate includes an aperture in a surface with a plurality of fastener brackets coupled to the surface. The fastener brackets are positioned about a peripheral portion of the aperture. The fastener brackets each include an opening for inserting a fastener. The opening is elevated from the surface of the mounting plate. The fasteners each have a fastener head and a fastener shaft positioned in the opening of the fastener brackets. The fastener shaft extends from the opening in a direction having an orthogonal component with respect to the surface of the mounting plate. A doser is coupled to the doser mounting system. The fastener shafts extend through openings in legs of the doser. An injector port of the doser is aligned with the aperture in the mounting plate.

Doser mounting system, components and methods

Systems and devices for delivering a fluid to an exhaust system. An inlet is configured for receiving the fluid, and a conduit includes openings for expelling the fluid into the exhaust system. A compact gaseous delivery system may include a first conduit in fluid communication with a fluid source, a second conduit in fluid communication with the first conduit, and a plurality of additional conduits in fluid communication with the second conduit and including a plurality of openings for expelling the fluid into the exhaust system. The first conduit, second conduit, and plurality of additional conduits may have axes that are substantially coplanar to form the compact gaseous delivery system that may be disposed within the exhaust system. Implementations may include openings with varying diameters. Other implementations may include a volute conduit with openings.

Gaseous reductant delivery devices and systems

System and apparatus are disclosed for reducing reductant deposit formation in an exhaust aftertreatment system. A directing device is provided in the exhaust flow path upstream of a reductant opening into the exhaust flow path. The directing device is configured to direct an exhaust flow toward the reductant opening and around the directing device to effectively mix the exhaust flow with a reductant provided through the reductant opening to reduce the formation of reductant deposits.

System and apparatus for reducing reductant deposit formation in exhaust aftertreatment systems

According to one embodiment, a sensor module includes a sensor probe that has at least two arms coupled together at a central location with each of the at least two arms extending radially outwardly away from the central location. Each of the at least two arms includes one of a plurality of openings and an elongate opening extending radially along the arm. The at least two arms define fluid flow channels therein. The sensor module also includes at least one extractor coupled to the probe. The at least one extractor includes a fluid flow channel that is communicable in fluid receiving communication with fluid flowing through the fluid flow channel of at least one of the at least two arms. Further, the sensor module includes at least one sensor that is communicable in fluid sensing communication with fluid flowing through the at least one extractor.

Exhaust gas sensor module

According to one embodiment, a reductant injection apparatus includes an injector attachment portion to which a reductant injector is coupleable. The apparatus also includes a perforated tubular portion coupled to the injector attachment portion. The perforated tubular portion includes an inlet, an outlet, and a diverging sidewall extending from the inlet to the outlet. Additionally, a plurality of perforations is formed in the sidewall. A reductant spray can be injected into the perforated tubular portion via the inlet. Further, a portion of a bulk exhaust gas stream can be diverted into the perforated tubular portion through the plurality of perforations, through the perforated tubular element, and out of the perforated tubular portion through the plurality of perforations. The portion of exhaust gas stream can then be rejoined with the bulk exhaust gas stream downstream of the perforated tubular portion.
