Seat assembly having a multi-position head restraint assembly

An adjustable head restraint assembly is provided with a support rod adapted to be mounted proximate to a vehicle seat back. A primary frame is supported on the support rod. A secondary frame is mounted to the primary frame for translation in a fore and aft direction. A locking arm is pivotally connected to one of the frames for engagement with a series of notches formed in the other. A biasing member cooperates with a locking arm for biasing the locking arm into a locked position. An actuator pivots the locking arm out of engagement from the series of notches for unlocking the locking arm and permitting adjustment of the adjustable head restraint in the fore and aft direction. The primary frame translates along the support rod with a locking arm for engagement with notches in the support rod for movement by the actuator for adjustment in an upright direction.

A head restraint system for an automotive vehicle seat includes a post having first and second end portions, a support member fixedly attached to the second end portion of the post, and a head rest assembly. The support member includes a locking feature. The head rest assembly includes a housing supported by the support member, a locking member, and an actuator configured to move the locking member from a locked position with the locking feature to an unlocked position from the locking feature to permit the headrest assembly to move relative to the post and support member.

Adjustable head restraint for an automotive vehicle seat

A seat assembly having a headrest for supporting the head of a seat occupant. The seat assembly includes a seat back, a support post disposed on the seat back, a headrest being moveably disposed on the support post, and a latch mechanism moveable between a latched position and an unlatched position. The headrest is simultaneously moveable in multiple directions when the latch mechanism is disposed in the unlatched position.

A vehicle seat head restraint assembly is provided with a stop mounted to a rod of a vehicle seat back. A frame is mounted to the rod to slide therealong. A head restraint is mounted to the frame. A shaft cooperates with the stop and the frame and includes a series of notches and the stop includes at least one projection that engages the notches in a locked rotary position of the shaft. The projection is disengaged from the notches in a released rotary position of the shaft. The shaft has a cam and an actuator has a follower arrangement for releasing the shaft to slide the head restraint frame along the rod. A head restraint assembly is also provided wherein the series of notches and the projection cooperate such that height adjustment in an upward direction only is permitted without actuation of the actuator.
