Deformation member

A side impact beam for motor vehicles has a profiled section of sheet metal having a length in a longitudinal direction and having a cross-sectional shape over most of the length. The cross-sectional shape has at least one cross-sectional portion comprised of a stay extending in the longitudinal direction, a first leg and a second leg connected to opposite longitudinal sides of the stay, a first flange connected to a free end of the first leg, and a second flange connected to a free end of the second flange. At least one tension element connects the first and second legs.

Side impact beam

A bumper for a motor vehicle has a transverse support and impact damping members connected to the transverse support, wherein the transverse support is fastened transverse to longitudinal supports of a motor vehicle frame via the impact damping members to the longitudinal supports. The transverse support is an open profiled member opening in a direction toward the impact damping members and has an upper shell and a lower shell. The transverse support has a front stay with an upper longitudinal edge and a lower longitudinal edge, wherein each one of the upper and the lower longitudinal edges has a leg extending toward the impact damping members. Each leg has a vertical portion and an angled reinforcement flange pointing toward the vehicle frame. Each leg is slanted inwardly between 5 degrees and 45 degrees from the longitudinal edges to the vertical portions.

Bumper

An impact damping member for motor vehicles, mounted as a safety member between a bumper element and a frame of the motor vehicle, has an outer tube having a longitudinal axis positioned perpendicularly to the bumper element and the frame. An inner profiled member is arranged inside the outer tube. The inner profiled member has several hollow bodies connected to one another, and each has a longitudinal axis extending transversely to the longitudinal axis of the outer tube. A first one of the hollow bodies next to the bumper element is penetrated by a coupling member that connects the impact damping member to the bumper element by penetrating the first hollow body and by being attached to the bumper element.
