Process for producing single layer and multilayer polyolefin foam pipes with improved compression resistance having a polyolefin foam layer which consists of mixtures of modified propylene polymers having strain hardening behaviour or propylene homopolymers with a stereospecificity index &#x3e;98% or propylene copolymers with a stereospecificity index of the homopolymer matrix of &#x3e;96%. The polyolefin foam pipes include coated steel pipes for transporting crude oil or gas products or district heating applications, single layer pipes for insulation purposes and for non- or low-pressure applications and multilayer plastic pipes for the transportation of hot or cold fluids.

Single layer and multilayer polyolefin foam pipes with improved compression resistance have a polyolefin foam layer which consists of mixtures of modified propylene polymers having strain hardening behaviour or propylene homopolymers with a stereospecifity index &#x3e;98% or propylene copolymers with a stereospecifity index of the homopolymer matrix of &#x3e;96%. The polyolefin foam pipes are coated steel pipes for transporting crude oil or gas products or district heating applications, single layer pipes for insulation purposes and for non- or low-pressure applications and multilayer plastic pipes for the transportation of hot or cold fluids.

Polyolefin fibers and polyolefin yarns of high strength and elongation and textile fabrics produced therefrom, which consist of modified propylene polymers, unmodified propylene polymers and adjuvants, are produced by melting the polyolefin mixtures in the extruder, transferring the melt by extrusion pumps to the spinnerets and drawing off the extruded filaments by high-speed galettes and/or winders.

Structurally isomeric poly(alkyl ethylenes) with H and Y structures, polymeric bridging segments and a Y index of 2&times;10 to 8&times;10 (kJ/mole/degree), have decreased instability in the melt and more advantageous processing properties. The structurally isomeric poly(alkyl ethylenes) with H and Y structures are synthesized by an irradiating method, a melt reaction method or a solid phase reaction method by reacting poly(alkyl ethylenes) with 0.05 to 5% by weight of monofunctional, difunctional and polyfunctional monomers, optionally in the presence of peroxides. The structurally isomeric poly(alkyl ethylenes) are suitable for producing films, sheets, panels, coatings, pipes, hollow objects and foams.

Heterophasic polyolefin alloy

Thermoplastic elastomers of good dyeability and high strength and elasticity, the incorporated elastomeric particles of which have and average particle diameter of 0.05 to 5 &mgr;m. The thermoplastic elastomers are formed according to a method in which mixtures of propylene homopolymers and/or propylene copolymers, elastomeric C,C,olefin copolymers and/or terpolymers and C,to C,diacrylates, C,to C,diallyl compounds, C,to C,dimethacrylates, C,to C,divinyl compounds, C,to C,acrylate esters of polyalcohols, C,to C,methacrylate esters of polyalcohols and/or C,C,triallyl compounds are added to a melt. The thermoplastic elastomers, as well as mixtures of the thermoplastic elastomers with conventional polyolefins, are suitable for use in the vehicle industry, in the domestic appliances industry, in the construction industry and in medical technology.

Thermoplastic elastomers of high strength, high elasticity and good dyeability, the incorporated elastomeric particles of which have an average particle diameter of 0.05 to 5 &mgr;m, from propylene homopolymers and/or propylene copolymers, elastomeric C,to C,olefin copolymers and/or terpolymers and multifunctional, unsaturated monomers are formed by a method, for which mixtures of propylene homopolymers and/or propylene copolymers, elastomeric C,to C,olefin copolymers and/or terpolymers and readily volatile C,to C,dienes are reacted in the melt. The thermoplastic elastomers, as well as mixtures with conventional polyolefins, are suitable for use in the vehicle industry, in the domestic appliances industry, in the building sector and in medical technology.

Thermoplastic elastomers of high strength and elasticity and of good dyeability and polymer blends of high strength produced therefrom

Polyolefin foam materials of high dimensional stability at elevated temperatures are produced from modified polypropylenes and unmodified polypropylenes. The modified polypropylenes used are produced by mixing polypropylene particles with thermally decomposing free radical-forming agents, absorbing readily volatile bifunctional monomers and heating and melting the mixture. Areas of application for the polyolefin foam materials of high dimensional stability at elevated temperatures are the packaging sector, motor vehicle parts, sports and leisure equipment, industrial applications, as well as applications in the building sector.

Modified polypropylenes of improved processability are produced by a continuous method by absorptively charging polypropylene particles at 20&deg; to 120&deg; C. with a gas mixture, which contains oxygen and bifunctional, unsaturated monomers, and melting the mixture. The modified polypropylenes of improved processability as well as mixtures with unmodified polypropylenes are suitable for the production of films, sheets, fibers, panels, coatings, pipes, hollow objects and foamed materials.

Cross-linkable, olefinic polymers synthesized from mixtures of olefinic polymers and ethylenically unsaturated organosilane compounds, which can be grafted, by a 2-step method using thermally decomposing free radical-forming agents by heating the mixtures to a temperature of 30.degree. to 110.degree. C. below the softening temperature or the crystallite melting point of the olefinic polymers used and subsequently heating the mixtures to a reaction temperature of 10.degree. to 60 .degree. C. below the softening temperature or the crystallite melting point of the olefinic polymers used. In the alternative, they can be grafted by a method involving the action of ionizing radiation with simultaneous absorption of organosilane compounds and the action of radiation. The method is suitable for producing films, sheets, fibers, panels, coatings, pipes, hollow objects, foamed materials and molded articles.

Cross-linkable, olefinic polymers and methods for their synthesis

Molded polyolefin articles of improved dimensional stability at elevated temperatures and improved stiffness and consist of mixtures of modified propylene polymers, which are synthesized by free radical coupling reactions or polymer-like reactions of functionalized polypropenes, and of unmodified propylene polymers, crystalline copolymers of propylene and .alpha.-olefins, elastic copolymers of ethylene and .alpha.-olefins, largely amorphous polypropylenes, non-isotactic propylene homopolymers, and auxiliary materials. The molded polyolefin articles, produced by blow molding or injection molding are suitable for use in the packaging industry, for use in the domestic appliances industry, to meet the requirements of laboratories and hospitals, for gardening and agricultural implements, for transporting containers for components in the automobile industry, and for components of machines and of electric and electronic equipment.

Segmented polyolefins, which are produced by the reaction of mixtures of powdery polyolefins and polyolefin granulates with unsaturated monomers in the presence of thermally decomposing free radical-forming agents in continuous mixers in two consecutive reaction steps in the solid phase, a reaction step in a solid phase/melt transition phase and a melt homogenizing step, have a high strength and tenacity. The segmented polyolefins, as well as mixtures with conventional polyolefins, are suitable for the production of films, sheets, fibers, panels, coatings, pipes, hollow objects and foams.
