The system includes a sensor set configured to sense a plurality of operating characteristics of a vehicle and an electronic processor connected to the sensor set. The electronic processor is configured to receive the plurality of operating characteristics from the sensor set, determine whether the trailer is swaying based on the plurality of operating characteristics, determine, in response to the trailer swaying, a target deceleration, determine, in response to the trailer swaying, a target yaw value, and modify a current yaw value to counter the trailer sway until reaching the target yaw value.

The electronic power steering unit determines a vehicle steering intervention threshold based on the torque sensed, the steering angle, and the vehicle speed. The electronic power steering unit predicts whether the vehicle steering intervention threshold will be exceeded within a predetermined time based on a torque gradient and/or a steering angle gradient. When the vehicle steering intervention threshold is predicted to be exceeded, the electronic power steering unit reduces a power steering assist and/or provides a counter steer force.

Method and system for steering intervention by electronic power steering unit to prevent vehicle rollover or loss of control

A method and system for estimating the corrosion levels of a steering rack of a vehicle. Measurements of torsional force applied to the steering rack are taken with respect to the displacement of the steering rack from a neutral position and the moving velocity of the vehicle, and compared to the expected values corresponding to a non-corroded steering rack. The degree of difference between the measured and expected values may then be used to estimate the level of corrosion of the steering rack.

Force-based corrosion detection for vehicle steering rack

A system and method for detecting corrosion in a steering rack of a vehicle based upon the performance of the steering rack in comparison to reference data collected for a non-corroded steering rack. Corrosion may be detected based upon analysis of performance data with respect to steering joggle or a data transform. Performance data may comprise displacement of the steering rack with respect to a neutral position, or the force applied to the components of the steering system.
