Methods and systems for mitigating the effects of defects in a quantum processor are provided. A mitigation system includes a quantum processor comprising a plurality of qubits. The system includes a light emitting source that can be tuned to produce light pulses of different wavelengths. The system includes an array of bandpass filters. Each bandpass filter is aligned with a qubit on the quantum processor and has a unique pass band. The system may include a controller configured to receive a selection of a qubit and to tune the light emitting source to emit a light pulse having a wavelength that falls within a range of a bandpass filter that is aligned with the selected qubit. The light pulse is used to scramble an ensemble of strongly coupled two-level system (TLS) in the processor.

A nanotube polariton quantum dot photon source device includes a substrate. A nanotube is arranged on the substrate, and an incident light source is configured to generate an exciton-plasmon polariton excitation in the nanotube. The nanotube emits a photon in response to the generated exciton plasmon polariton excitation. The nanotube has a length L<50 nm to emit one or more photons at a desired frequency.

Techniques regarding quantum transducers are provided. For example, one or more embodiments described herein can include an apparatus that can comprise a superconducting microwave resonator having a microstrip architecture that can include a dielectric substrate positioned between a superconducting waveguide and a superconducting ground plane. The superconducting waveguide can have a first material composition. Also, the superconducting ground plane can have a second material composition that is distinct from the first material composition. Further, an optical resonator can be arranged with the dielectric substrate.

Devices and/or methods provided herein relate to providing conversion of photons between an optical domain and a microwave domain. An electronic structure can comprise a resonator assembly comprising a microwave resonator and an optical resonator, an optical pump waveguide that transmits an optical pump input to the resonator assembly, and an optical signal waveguide, separate from the optical pump waveguide, that transmits an optical signal relative to the resonator assembly. The electronic structure further can comprise a microwave signal waveguide that transmits a microwave signal relative to the resonator assembly. The optical pump waveguide can comprise a delay portion that delays receipt of the optical pump input to the resonator assembly through the optical pump waveguide to a time after reduction of a majority of decoherence of the resonator assembly caused by scattering of a portion of the optical pump input, which portion does not enter the optical pump waveguide.

Techniques regarding quantum transducers are provided. For example, one or more embodiments described herein can include an apparatus that can include a superconducting microwave resonator having a microstrip architecture that includes a dielectric layer positioned between a superconducting waveguide and a ground plane. The apparatus can also include an optical resonator positioned within the dielectric layer.

A membrane is electrically charged to a polarity. A surface of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) in a solution is caused to acquire a charge of the polarity. The solution is filtered through the membrane. An electromagnetic repulsion between the membrane of the polarity and the CNTs of the polarity causes the CNTs to spontaneously align to form a crystalline structure.

A semiconductor structure comprises a substrate, a patch of optically tunable material disposed over the substrate, a first electrode coupled to the patch of optically tunable material and a switch providing a current source, and a second electrode coupled to the patch of optically tunable material and a ground voltage. The first electrode and the second electrode are configured to modify a state of the patch of optically tunable material to adjust a reflectivity of the patch of optically tunable material.

Reconfigurable geometric metasurfaces with optically tunable materials

A tunable metasurface is provided. The tunable metasurface includes a mirror, a dielectric layer disposed on the mirror, a metallic antenna and a phase change material (PCM) layer. The PCM layer is interposed between the dielectric layer and the metallic antenna. The PCM layer is configured to be amorphous or crystalline. The mirror, the dielectric layer, the metallic antenna and the PCM layer cooperatively form a Fabry Perot cavity in which light incident on the metallic antenna from free space is reflected between the mirror and the metallic antenna. The PCM layer has blanket dimensions relative to those of the metallic antenna such that the Fabry Perot cavity is critically coupled with the free space when the PCM layer is only one of amorphous and crystalline.

Techniques regarding microwave-to-optical quantum transducers are provided. For example, one or more embodiments described herein can include an apparatus that can include a microwave resonator on a dielectric substrate and adjacent to an optical resonator, and a photon barrier structure at least partially surrounding an optical resonator, wherein the photon barrier structure is configured to provide isolation of the microwave resonator from optical photons in the dielectric substrate outside the photon barrier structure.

Microwave-to-optical quantum transducers

A light detection and ranging (LiDAR) system is provided. The LiDAR system includes an emitter for emitting a light beam, a configurable light processing control unit to affect the light beam, a receiver for receiving the light beam and a computer system. The computer system controls operations of the light processing control unit, computes a distance to a target using a time of flight of the light beam from the emitter to the target and from the target to the receiver and simultaneously corroborates the computed distance by controlling the operations of the light processing control unit to focus and defocus the light beam.

An apparatus includes two or more electrically rotatable antennas providing a reconfigurable metasurface, each of the electrically rotatable antennas including a disk of optically tunable material. The apparatus also includes a control circuit including a plurality of switches each coupled to (i) one of a plurality of electrodes, the plurality of electrodes being arranged proximate different portions of at least one surface of each of the disks of optically tunable material and (ii) to at least one of a current source and a ground voltage. The control circuit is configured to modify states of portions of the optically tunable material in each of the disks of optically tunable material utilizing current supplied between at least two of the plurality of electrodes to adjust reflectivity of the portions of the optically tunable material to dynamically reconfigure respective antenna shape configurations of each of the electrically rotatable antennas.

An apparatus includes two or more tunable antennas providing a reconfigurable metasurface, each of the tunable antennas including a plurality of pixels of optically tunable material, and a control circuit including switches providing current sources and a ground voltage, the switches being coupled to respective ones of the pixels of optically tunable material in each of the tunable antennas via first electrodes, the ground voltage being coupled to respective ones of the pixels of optically tunable material in each of the tunable antennas via second electrodes. The control circuit is configured to modify states of respective ones of the plurality of pixels of optically tunable material in the tunable antennas utilizing current supplied between the first electrodes and the second electrodes to adjust reflectivity of the plurality of pixels of optically tunable material in each of the tunable antennas to dynamically reconfigure respective antenna shape configurations of the tunable antennas.

A spatial light modulator (SLM) is provided that includes an optical resonator (i.e., pixel) having nanoscale size. The optical resonator having nanoscale size includes a phase-change material such as, for example, a GeSbTe alloy, sandwiched between silicon nitride cladding layers. The phase-change material can undergo a crystalline-to-amorphous phase transition which is characterized by a large change in optical properties of the resonator.

Differential, plasmonic, non-dispersive infrared gas sensors are provided. In one aspect, a gas sensor includes: a plasmonic resonance detector including a differential plasmon resonator array that is resonant at different wavelengths of light; and a light source incident on the plasmonic resonance detector. The differential plasmon resonator array can include: at least one first set of plasmonic resonators interwoven with at least one second set of plasmonic resonators, wherein the at least one first set of plasmonic resonators is configured to be resonant with light at a first wavelength, and wherein the at least one second set of plasmonic resonators is configured to be resonant with light at a second wavelength. A method for analyzing a target gas and a method for forming a plasmonic resonance detector are also provided.
