A wellhead connection for connecting and sealing to a casing, including an upper head housing accommodating the upper end of the casing in its central bore, a stop shoulder in the central bore to allow the upper head housing to rest on the upper end of the casing, and a seal profile section formed at the lower end of the central bore below the stop shoulder. The wellhead connection is configured such that, first connecting the slip housing and bottom ring with a bottom connector energizes slip connectors into gripping engagement with the casing and locks the slip housing and bottom ring around the casing, while thereafter connecting the upper head housing and the bottom ring with a top connector energizes the metal seal ring so as to radially compress the metal seal ring against the casing to form a metal seal.

Casing head slip lock connection for high temperature service

Wellhead assembly and method for providing a power connection to a downhole electrical device, such as a heater. Pressure-containing wellhead body members enclose a vertical wellbore and support therein an isolated tubing hanger and a grounding tubing hanger. The isolated tubing hanger suspends a conducting tubing string, while the grounding tubing hanger suspends a grounding tubing string concentrically spaced from the conducting tubing string. The isolated tubing hanger has an outer housing, an inner electrically conducting portion supported by the outer housing operative to provide electrical connection with, and suspend, the conducting tubing string, and insulation between the housing and conducting portion to electrically isolate the housing portion. Hot electrical connection is made for electrical connection to the conducting portion of the isolated tubing hanger or the conducting tubing string. Electrical isolation seals and electrically isolates the hot electrical connection from the wellhead body members. Grounding connection is provided to a wellhead body member. A source of current provides a first connection to the hot electrical connection and a second connection to the grounding connection.

Method and apparatus to provide electrical connection in a wellhead for a downhole electrical device

Wellhead assembly and method for providing power connection to downhole electrical device. Wellhead body members support vertically stacked isolated tubing hanger and grounding tubing hanger. The isolated tubing hanger suspends a conducting tubing string, while the grounding tubing hanger suspends a grounding tubing string concentrically spaced from the conducting tubing string. The isolated tubing hanger has an outer housing, an inner electrically conducting portion supported by the outer housing to provide electrical connection with, and suspend, the conducting tubing string, and insulation between the housing and conducting portion to electrically isolate the housing. Hot electrical connection is made through a conduit in the wellhead body member, for electrical connection to the conducting tubing string. Grounding connection is provided to the wellhead body members.

The assembly functions to clamp onto and frictionally engage the polished rod of a well's rod string, with sufficient force to suspend the string from the wellhead. The assembly comprises an annular body forming opposed, radial, internally threaded side openings extending from its outer circumferential surface to its central vertical bore. An externally threaded locking member is positioned in each side opening and protrudes externally. The locking members can be manually threaded inwardly to engage the polished rod. An external leverage assembly is anchored to the body and engages one of the locking members. This leverage assembly can be manually turned to tighten the locking member against the polished rod with powerful axial force to provide enhanced gripping.

Opposed pairs of sockets are formed by the bottom surface of the slip housing and the top surface of the bottom ring of a casing hanger assembly. Vertical holes are provided in the elastomer seal element which is sandwiched between the slip housing and bottom ring. Each pair of sockets and corresponding seal element hole form a socket chamber. Rigid, motion-limiting pins are positioned in the socket chambers. Each pin has side and bottom clearances with the chamber side and bottom walls. The pins are therefore initially free floating, to allow the seal element to move to accommodate oversized casing; but the pins take up the casing load as the slip housing descends and limit its downward travel, thereby preventing excessive compression of the seal element, which can lead to casing damage.
