A biological sample collection system and dispensing system is described. The biological sample collection system provides for collection and processing of a biological sample (i.e. bodily fluids collected from nose, throat, or other mucosal membrane of an animal or human). The biological sample collection system includes a sample collector and a collection tube. The sample collector provides a structure for sealing the biological sample in the collection tube for further processing without opening the collection tube, and may provide a structure for collecting the biological sample. When the sample collector and collection tube are removably attached the dispensing system is formed. The dispensing system provides for further processing of the biological sample without opening the collection tube (i.e. without un-securing or removing the plug from the collection tube). The dispensing system further provides dispensing of the processed biological sample without opening the collection tube).

Reaction condition compositions for detecting a genomic variation from a small sample amount from 5 nano grams (ng) to 1 microgram (ug) includes DNA ligase, DNA polymerase, at least one COP, a DNA polymerase buffer, NAD+, at least two primers, and deoxynucleotide triphosphates (dNTPs). Detection of the genomic variation utilizes COPs with increased ligation efficiency and RCA with fluorescence detection due to simultaneous ligation of COPs to CPs and replication of the genomic variation. The reaction condition composition eliminates the need to perform background reduction of un-hybridized or un-ligated COPs.

The lyophilized reagent capsule is configured to store a lyophilized reagent for at least five days, and is further configured to deliver a lyophilized reagent to a biological sample. The capsule includes a top, a bottom, and a lyophilized reagent. A method for delivering the lyophilized reagent via the capsule and without the use of pipettes to deliver the lyophilized reagents is described. The capsule may be part of a lyophilized reagent capsule kit.

The wavelength scanning apparatus also includes an analysis scanner having at least four light sources, where the at least four light sources excite at least four fluorophores, at least four excitation light filters that filter out light except that of the desired excitation wavelength/s, at least four fluorescence emission light filters that filter out light except that of the desired florescent emission wavelengths, and at least four photodetectors to detect light of the desired florescent emission wavelengths.

The present invention relates to a novel device for the collection, storage, shipping and retrieval of hair follicles from animals for the purpose of isolating DNA or other genetic material from the follicles for analysis. The device has outer flaps for the protection as well as identification of the samples and an inner part where samples are placed. The inner device has thicker base and a clear plastic cover, the easy peel back of which is facilitated by a) low tack adhesives that hold the two together and b) a touch cut on one end, through the base sheet which creates a grip. This makes the device convenient and easy to use, and yet a robust collection device for hair follicles from animals in a farm or real-life situation. Hair follicles can be punched out through the inner device for direct DNA isolation and analysis.

The present invention provides a novel method for labeling and sequencing nucleic acid molecules, particularly DNA molecules in which an internally labeled, partially extended primer is elongated in a cycled primer extension reaction. An unlabeled DNA primer is contacted with a DNA template in the presence of suboptimal amounts of four dNTPs, one of which is labeled with a detectable marker which may be a fluorescent or visible fluorophor, and infared fluorophor or a radioactive label. This small, labeled primer extension product is then transferred to a new reaction where chain terminated primer extension products for DNA analysis are prepared.
