The invention is a point and click method for positioning an external fixator on a patient, in which a surgeon—using a computer mouse or similar device—inscribes lines or points on a computer screen displaying an x-ray or other photographic image of the bones of a patient together with two rings in position adjacent the bones. By inscribing lines on the computer screen, the underlying drawings program detects the x-y coordinates of any point on the screen when the user (the surgeon or other practitioner) clicks on it, and outputs the x-y coordinates of every point identified by the user including the two points defining any desired line. The practitioner thus can, using 'point and click' operation, govern the repositioning of two fixator rings on the bones of a patient.

The present invention is a hole extender, in which a hole transporter includes a transport beam having a first flange with a first flange pin and a first flange hole, and at the other end of the transport beam is a second flange with a second flange hole. Key features of the present hole transporter include that the main direction of each flange is perpendicular to the beam, and the direction of the second flange hole is parallel to the direction of the first flange hole.

The invention is a half pin for use in conjunction with external fixators, in which the half pin has a thin hydroxyapatite coating over a substantial portion thereof, a not-sharp hole-finding tip, and a variable pitch pattern in the threaded portion of the half pin. The hydroxyapatite coating must be thin—40-70 microns, deposited by plasma spray—and with limited porosity and pore size, and must extend not only over all the threads of the half pin but also a substantial portion of the unthreaded shaft proximal to the threaded end. The invention also includes a pin cube for use in association with the coated half pins. Wires may also be coated with the hydroxyapatite coating.

Half pins for external fixators

A versatile intramedullary nail is constructed in two cooperating and optionally interlocking pieces, with a further optional annular restoration hub. The two cooperating pieces, when interlocked, approximate a long shaft, generally tubular in cross-section, with a recessed area on the male piece adapted to receive the annular restoration hub. The female piece is adapted to receive the flange of the male piece coaxially, and&#x2014;unless a locking screw or bolt is inserted through the flange&#x2014;the two pieces can rotate axially. Alternatively, the nail can be constructed of a single solid piece.

Intramedullary nail

The present bone implant is a cannulated screw/nail or combination having end, middle and head threads as well as unthreaded portions along the length of the shaft. The pitch of the head threads is always less than the middle threads. Variations include a two-part construction with a narrow protrusion having narrow-protrusion threads of opposite hand, or the inclusion of at least first middle threads and second middle threads of different pitch. The implant provides bone compression engineering heretofore unavailable with prior known compression screws.

Intramedullary nail and nail combinations

A two-component system for joining two bones or bone fragments, in which a first component is threaded, self-tapping and bears an annular mating end to engage two mating pins on the end of a second component which is also threaded and self-tapping. The two components have opposite handed threads thereon, so that upon final installation into adjacent bone the final rotation brings the abutted bone surfaces into a compressive engagement as each components burrows deeper into its respective bone surface.

Small joint fusion implant

The present invention provides a subtalar implant as well as methods of use thereof for the purpose of correcting podiatric disorders such as various types of flat foot conditions relating to the subtalar joint. The subtalar implant is capable of threaded engagement with a positioning element used to position and manipulate the implant during surgical implantation in the sinus tarsi of the foot. The implant is cannulated to receive a guide rod to facilitate final positioning of the implant. Once implanted, the subtalar implant provides anatomical fit with the subtalar joint anatomical structure without the need for indentations to receive osseous tissue growth to anchor the subtalar implant.

Subtalar implant and methods of use thereof

A clamp for an external fixation system includes a body having a bottom portion and semi-spherical top portion. The top portion has a threaded bore provided along a longitudinal axis: The clamp includes a clamp assembly having a base with a semi-spherical cavity and a lid positioned over the base to house at least one pin between the base and the lid. The base and the lid have a bore provided along a longitudinal axis thereof. A fastening member is provided that extends through the bore in the base and the lid of the clamp assembly and is secured within the threaded bore of the top portion of the body. The bores in the base and the lid have a diameter that is greater than the diameter of the fastening member.

Multi-angle clamp

The present invention provides a cannulated hemi-implant with a base and a threaded stem for fixing the stem of the implant within a medullary canal of a phalanx or other bone in the foot. The implant includes a tri-part head capable of both cutting bone and self-threading, with bone forming the medullary canal of a phalanx of a human foot. The present invention also provides a hand tool which engages and rotates the implant within the medullary canal of the phalanx. The present invention further provides a method of surgically implanting the implant in the medullary canal of the phalanx or other bone.
