Provided are method of generating a fiber from a globular protein such as albumin. Also provided are albumin fibers and fabrics and methods of using same for bonding a damaged tissue or for ex vivo or in vivo formation of a tissue.

An optical recording medium, an optical recording system and an optical recording method, based on the suppression of the absorption coefficient of a polymeric film at selective wavelength in the infra-red as a result of irradiation the film with a beam of a CO laser. The magnitude of the effect, which is observable only above a threshold power of the laser beam, is related to the energy deposited by the writing beam. Optical recorded information is stored in the modified absorbance spectrum of the polymer and is read by an infra-red photometric device in the transmission mode.

Medium, system and method for optical recording

A method for welding ocular tissues to each other including providing a first portion of ocular tissue having a leading edge and a second portion of ocular tissue having a leading edge, positioning the leading edge of the first portion of ocular tissue directly adjacent to and against the leading edge of the second portion of ocular tissue, and applying pulses of a laser light from a source thereof substantially simultaneously to the leading edge of the first portion of ocular tissue and to the leading edge of the second portion of ocular tissue, the pulses of the laser light penetrating the portions of ocular tissue to a depth of approximately 1-300 microns so that the leading edge of the first portion of ocular tissue may be securely welded to the leading edge of the second portion of ocular tissue, the laser light having a wavelength of approximately 10.6 microns and a power output level sufficient to maintain the portions of ocular tissue at a temperature of approximately 45-60 degrees Celsius during the applying of the laser light.

Eye surgery

A process of radiation-induced formation of a uniform metal or metal oxide region suitable for device application or for repairing transparent defects in pattern metal films of lithographic masks has been found. The process requires that the heat evolved during the radiation-induced reactions be carefully limited to produce the desired uniformity.

Method of forming metal regions

A method for lithographically fabricating devices is disclosed. In accordance with the method, a sacrificial coating material (SCM), e.g., a resist, mixed with a fluorescent material is deposited onto a substrate and then etched. SCM etching is monitored by subjecting the fluorescent material within the SCM to fluorescence-inducing energy, and detecting the resulting fluorescence. Because the fluorescent material is etched away as the SCM is etched, fluorescence intensity decreases as SCM thickness is reduced. Thus, SCM etch end point is accurately determined because etch end point corresponds to the point in time when the detected fluorescence ceases.
