Embodiments of stable topical compositions for administering fenoldopam (compound (I) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or solvate thereof are disclosed for immediate or continued slow release administration, over prolonged periods of time with safe minimal systemic exposure of fenoldopam (reducing the risk for lowering blood pressure). The compositions include those compositions that increase the stability and skin absorption of the drug, particularly anhydrous semi-solid compositions and creams. This is accomplished by incorporating fenoldopam in soluble or dispersed form into semi-solid compositions like ointments or anhydrous gels that are not irritative. Embodiments of methods for using the topical compositions in the treatment of dermatological disorders including psoriasis, alopecia atopic dermatitis and vitiligo are disclosed.

Alternating and semi-alternating poly(ester-anhydride) copolymers

A depot system containing at least one antibiotic and a biodegradable poly(ester-anhydride) of ricinoleic acid (RA) and sebacic acid (SA) having alternating or semi-alternating ester and anhydride bonds is provided. Compositions comprising biodegradable copolymers for prolonged local release of an antibiotic

Polymers containing nitrogen-halogen covalent bonds, i.e., N-halamine polymers, are provided for use in water treatment by reducing or removing microbes and toxic chemicals. Polymers containing one or more amide groups, guanidino groups, or groups derived from urethane or urea, are directly halogenated. The hydrolysis of N-halamine bonds is closely monitored by the presence of different electron-donating or electron-withdrawing groups adjacent to the nitrogen(s) of the N-halamine groups, and the resultant polymer can be facilely reloaded with halogen. Released halogen is in the form of an oxidative halogen or a hypohalous acid, in an effective amount and in an extended period of time, to significantly reduce the amount of a wide range of microbes includingand bacteriophage MS2 in contaminated water. Sponges, beads, resins, gel, and membranes made from these polymers are used in water treatment.
