The present invention relates to a communication system for a helmet, comprising a docking station located in the rear portion of said helmet, and a detachable portion adapted to be connected to said helmet via said docking station, wherein said detachable portion comprises pressure-activated elements, which are located at a distance from the center of the rear portion of said helmet, such as to be easily reached by the fingers of the wearer.

The invention relates to a protective helmet which is provided with communication equipment, the helmet comprises one or more microphones that are embedded next to cheeks of the wearer in one or more layers of material that are located between a helmet shell and said wearer's cheeks, wherein each of said one or more microphones is connected directly or indirectly to said communication equipment by means of a connection element, each of said connection elements being also embedded respectively within slots that are made within one or more of said layers.

The present invention relates to a method of extending an intercom communication range, comprising: a) during the pairing process between a first headset communication device and a second headset communication device, providing cellular related parameters, to be stored in a memory module of each headset communication device, in addition to the common Bluetooth required parameters, such that the cellular related parameters of the first headset includes a cellular phone number associated with the second headset and vice versa; b) establishing an intercom communication between both headsets via a Bluetooth channel; and c) upon detecting intercom communication loss at said Bluetooth channel or unavailable Bluetooth link during said intercom communication, temporarily routing the intercom communication to an alternate cellular communication channel by initiating a cellular call using the stored cellular phone number of the second headset.

An enhanced protective helmet includes in one embodiment an outer shell and a molded lining disposed within the outer shell and contoured to surround a human head. The helmet further includes an elongated antenna having a proximal end and a free end, the antenna being supported by the molded lining. The helmet includes a connection point which can be mounted to the molded lining or otherwise extend away from the proximal end of the antenna, the connection point communicatively connected to the proximal end of the antenna. The connection point receives a connection from a mobile communication device, thereby linking the mobile communication device and the antenna. The antenna is located at helmet location that is along one side of the helmet above a left or right ear of the user for optimizing antenna performance.

A system and method are provided for a system and method for initiating ad-hoc communication between mobile headsets. A communication device is provided, including a processor and a control circuit which is connected to the processor and which has a paired-communication module that configures the processor to provide paired communication with at least one additional device. The control circuit further includes an ad-hoc communication module that configures the processor to establish and maintain an ad-hoc communication session with a second communication device that is not presently paired with the first communication device. The referenced communication session is enabled by acquiring an open communication channel. Additionally, a method for providing an ad-hoc communication session with at least one communication device is provided. The method begins by identifying a second communication device within communication range of a first communication device and which is not presently paired to the first communication device. The method continues by requesting a communication channel through which the first communication device and the second communication device can communicate, and pairing the first communication device and the second communication device. Then, an acceptance from the second communication device to join the ad-hoc communication session is received. Upon receiving the acceptance, the communication channel for communication between the first communication device and the second communication device is opened. Upon termination of the ad-hoc communication session, the first communication device and the second communication device are disconnected.

System and method for initiating ad-hoc communication between mobile headsets

A communications headset for use with a wireless telephone comprises a mount and a first and second attachment shaped to secure itself to the mount, wherein the first attachment is configured to secure itself around the ear of a user and wherein the second attachment includes a top portion to secure itself to the frame of a pair of glasses worn by the user. Optionally, the mount includes a slot formed through the housing of the communication headset and the first and second attachments include a downwardly dependent leg shaped and sized for receipt in the slot. Also optionally, the mount and the first and second attachment are secured to one another using a magnet attached to either of the housing or the attachments.
