A heater for heating water in an aquarium tank is provided with a thermostat which includes a bimetal strip carrying one contact and another strip carrying another contact. Upon deformation of the bimetal strip in response to temperature changes, the contacts are closed to connect the heater with an electrical supply circuit. The distance between the contacts is initially set by a rotatable cam acting on a curved portion of the bimetal strip. A cylindrical body which supports the cam to rotate the latter is provided with a helical groove in which is engaged an indicator captured in an elongated axial slot formed in a support of the cylindrical body. The support has at least one scale on its surface visible through a glass container of the heater. When the cam is rotated to change the distance between the contacts this change is indicated by the position of the indicator on the scale.

A dental tool for wire wrapping a portion of a dental anchor projecting from dentition, the dental tool including an elongated rod with a cylindrical receiving chamber axially extending into the rod from a forward end thereof for receiving the projecting dental anchor therein. An elongated passageway extends through the rod offset from the chamber for receiving a supply of wire therethrough. A manipulating device is coupled to the rear end of the rod for rotation of the tool to thereby helically wrap the wire about the anchor for reinforcing the anchor. The wire can be extended from one dental anchor to an adjacent dental anchor to thereby splint the anchors together.

Method and apparatus for reinforcing dental anchors

Shelving including a flat shelf member positioned on corner posts, where the height is adjustable. Each of the corner posts has a spiral indentation around its exterior. Corner clamping assemblies are placed about each corner post. The clamping assemblies have frusto-conical shaped exteriors and are provided on their interior with an inwardly extending protrusion which can engage within the spiral indentation. The shelf has corner retaining members with complementary frusto-conical interiors which receive and securely hold the clamping assemblies about their respective corner posts. The spiral indentation in the corner posts permit the corner clamping assemblies to be positioned at any location along the corner posts to thereby selectively vertically position the flat shelf at a desired height. In a modified embodiment, each corner post is provided with two equally spaced spiral indentations around its exterior, so that each corner clamping assembly may include two separate identical members each provided with at least one protrusion on its interior wall. Preferably, a locating mark is disposed vertically on each corner post across the spiral indentation for positioning the corner clamping assemblies in alignment with each other.

An alarm transmitter device includes a storage element which stores electrical charge and which energizes an output transmitting circuit upon the occurrence of an alarm condition. To maintain the storage element at full charge or in ready standby mode, a trickle charging circuit is provided which includes an energy conversion device for converting solar energy, broadcast electromagnetic energy, heat energy or the like into an electrical current suitable for trickle charging the storage element. After the storage element is substantially discharged, subsequent to an occurrence of an alarm condition, a battery or other source of electrical energy is connectable to terminals connected to the storage element for initially rapidly recharging the storage element to the fully charged state.

Self-sustaining alarm transmitter device

A thermoelectric display device is described which includes a thermoelectric element having a surface which exhibits a reversible temperature which is a function of the magnitude and direction of a current passing through the element. The thermoelectric element includes two dissimilar conductors joined in overlapping relation over a predetermined area to form a junction. The junction is advantageously formed by overlapping a p-type semi-conductive layer and an n-type semi-conductive layer, which may or may not be separated in the region of overlap by an electrically conductive layer of material. A cholesteric crystal material is disposed on the surface of the thermoelectric element in the region of the junction thereof in thermally conductive relation therewith, the liquid crystal material being variable between different optical states as a function of the temperature to which the same is exposed. In this manner, the optical state which the display device exhibits is a function of the direction and magnitude of a current passing through the junction of the thermoelectric element and the resulting temperature which manifests itself at the thermoelectric element surface.
