Apparatuses, methods, and systems for adaptive sectoring of a wireless base station are disclosed. An apparatus includes a base station, wherein the base station includes a communication processing system operative to perform baseband processing of receive or transmit baseband signals. The base station further includes a plurality of antennas, wherein the plurality of antennas are connected to the communication processing system, wherein a plurality of subsets of the plurality of antennas operate to form a plurality of sectors, wherein each sector of each subset of the plurality of antennas is operative to cover a coverage area as determined by a beamforming pattern formed by a subset of the plurality of antennas of the sector, wherein the coverage area of one or more of the sectors is adaptively selected based on an existing cell site located within the coverage area of the one or more sectors.

Adaptive sectoring of a wireless base station

Apparatuses, methods, and systems for surveying a site are disclosed. One method includes transmitting, by a ground unit, wireless signals while a directionally adjustable beam-forming antenna of the ground unit changes a beam direction of the transmission of the wireless signals to N beam directions, wherein the directionally adjustable beam-forming antenna includes a known motion, receiving and measuring, by an elevated unit, a magnitude and phase of the wireless signals transmitted by the ground unit through the N beam directions, determining N complex receive power representations wherein each complex receive power representation includes the measured magnitude and phase of the received wireless signals corresponding with each of the N beam directions, and determining a receive power summation comprising performing a complex summation of the N complex receive power representations.

Site survey for wireless base station placement

Apparatuses, methods, and systems for assisted channel approximation wireless communication of a supercell base station are disclosed. One apparatus includes a wireless network, wherein the wireless network includes a supercell base station comprising a plurality of antennas, a plurality of user devices, wherein the plurality of user devices is located too far away to support omnidirectional electromagnetic communication with the supercell base station, and a separate communication device located proximate to the plurality of user devices. The separate communication device operates to receive omnidirectional wireless signals from the supercell base station, characterized a transmission channel between the supercell base station and the separate communication device, and directionally transmit the characterized channel back to the base station. The supercell base station operates to directionally transmit wireless communication signals through a directional beam to the plurality of user devices based on the characterized channel.

Assisted channel approximation for wireless communication of a supercell base station

Apparatuses, methods, and systems for distributing resource block between interfering cells, are disclosed. One method includes allocating resource blocks to a plurality of macro-cells and a plurality of sectors of a supercell, wherein the supercell includes a wireless communication cell that provides wireless coverage to a larger region than the plurality of macro-cells and includes the plurality of sectors, wherein each of the macro-cells provide wireless coverage that at least partially overlaps with a region of wireless coverage of the supercell, wherein the supercell includes one or more supercell sector coverage areas that are interfered by at least one macro-cell. The allocating the resource blocks includes determining which of the plurality of macro-cells wirelessly interfere with which of the plurality of sectors, and determining, for each interfered sector, a total unmet demand of the interfered sector and interfering macro-cells for a coverage area of the interfered sector.

Distributing spectral resources between interfering cells

Apparatuses, methods, and systems for overlaying a coverage area of a cellular wireless network with a coverage area of a sectorization base station are disclosed. One method includes providing, by a plurality of cellular base stations, wireless access to a plurality of wireless devices over a coverage area, providing, by a sectorization base station, wireless communication to the plurality of wireless devices over at least the coverage area, each sector of a plurality of antennas of the sectorization base station operates to cover a selectable coverage area as determined by a width of a beamforming pattern, identifying locations of each of the plurality of wireless devices, and selecting beamforming parameters of the beamforming pattern based at least on the locations of the plurality of wireless devices, wherein the selected beamforming parameters control at least a sector selection and the width of the beamforming pattern of the sector.

Overlaying a coverage area of a cellular wireless network with a coverage area of an adaptive sectorization base station

Apparatuses, methods, and systems for adaptive sectoring of a wireless base station are disclosed. An apparatus includes a base station, wherein the base station includes a communication processing system operative to perform baseband processing of receive or transmit baseband signals. The base station further includes a plurality of antennas, wherein the plurality of antennas are connected to the communication processing system, wherein a plurality of subsets of the plurality of antennas operate to form a plurality of sectors, wherein each sector of each subset of the plurality of antennas is operative to cover a selectable coverage area as determined by a width of a beamforming pattern formed by a subset of the plurality of antennas of the sector, wherein the selectable coverage area of each of the sectors is adaptively selected based on a data demand at different locations within the coverage area.

Apparatuses, methods, and systems for a site survey tool are disclosed. One site survey tool includes an elevated platform comprising a directionally adjustable beam-forming antenna, and operates to adjust an elevation (z coordinate) of the adjustable beam-forming antenna, a ground unit that operates to adjust to a plurality of locations (x and y coordinates). The elevated platform and the ground unit operate to determine an angular spread boundary of a supercell base station, determine a power azimuth angular spectrum threshold needed in order for the supercell base station to support adaptive sectorization, estimate a power azimuth angular spectrum of a site, and determine that the site supports the supercell base station if the estimated power azimuth angular spectrum of the site is less than the power azimuth angular spectrum threshold at the angular spread boundary.

Determining whether a site supports a supercell base station

An apparatus for pointing wireless communication antennas may include (1) a mount that secures (A) a wireless communication antenna that transmits wireless communication signals to a remote wireless communication antenna that is secured on a remote mount and (B) an array of pointing antennas that receives, from a remote array of pointing antennas mounted on the remote mount, a beacon signal that indicates a location of the remote array of pointing antennas, (3) a motorized drive that physically orients the mount, and (4) a processing device that (A) determines, based at least in part on the beacon signal, an orientation of a boresight axis of the wireless communication antenna relative to a boresight axis of the remote wireless communication antenna and (B) directs the motorized drive to orient the mount such that the wireless communication antenna's boresight axis aligns with the remote wireless communication antenna's boresight axis.

Apparatuses, methods, and systems for MIMO inter-stream interference cancellation are disclosed. One method includes determining a channel matrix between a plurality of transmitting antennas of a transmitter and a plurality of receiving antennas of a receiver, determining a plurality of channel propagation delays based on a propagation delay between each of the plurality of transmitting antennas and each of the plurality of receiving antennas, determining differences in the plurality of channel propagation delays, preprocessing, by the transmitter, streams of symbols for each transmitting antenna for transmission based on the differences in the plurality of channel propagation delays and based on the channel matrix, and transmitting, by the transmitter, the preprocessed symbol streams through the plurality of transmitting antennas.

MIMO (multiple-input, multiple-output) inter-stream interference cancellation

Particular embodiments may provide a transceiver in geosynchronous orbit. The transceiver may include a plurality of forward channel receivers. At least one of the forward channel receivers may receive (1) a forward channel laser communication beam transmitted from a ground station and (2) an E-band frequency having a bandwidth of 81-86 GHz. The transceiver may also include a plurality of forward channel transmitters having different frequencies. The forward channel transmitters may transmit user beams to endpoint devices, wherein the user beams are derived from the forward channel laser and MMW communication beams. The transceiver may also include a plurality of return channel receivers, wherein the return channel receivers receive user beams from the endpoint devices. The transceiver may also include at least one return channel transmitter, wherein the return channel transmitter transmits a return channel laser communication beam to a ground station.

Bidirectional satellite communications

Apparatuses, methods, and systems for a site survey tool are disclosed. One site survey tool includes an elevated platform, wherein the elevated platform includes a directionally adjustable beam-forming antenna, wherein the elevated platform operates to adjust an elevation of the adjustable beam-forming antenna, and wherein the elevated platform operates to transmit or receive wireless signals while the directionally adjustable beam-forming antenna changes a beam direction. Further, a ground unit transmits wireless signals to the elevated platform or receives wireless signals from the elevated platform while the directionally adjustable beam-forming antenna changes the beam direction. A signal quality of received wireless signals is measured, and a power azimuth angular spectrum of a surveyed site is estimated based on a known motion of the adjustable beam-forming antenna, a known beam-forming pattern of the adjustable beam-forming antenna, and the measured phase and amplitude of the received wireless signals.

Site survey tool for cellular base station placement

In one embodiment, a method includes receiving two or more input radio-frequency (RF) signals, each input RF signal being received on a separate input channel and having a different frequency range. The method also includes amplifying each input RF signal of the two or more input RF signals separately to produce two or more respective amplified RF signals. The method further includes aggregating the two or more amplified RF signals into one aggregated communication signal using a passive waveguide multiplexer, where the aggregated communication signal is an E-band communication signal having a frequency range within approximately 71-76 GHz or approximately 81-86 GHz. The method also includes transmitting the aggregated communication signal.

Wireless communication utilizing post-amplification carrier aggregation

Apparatuses, methods, and systems for MIMO inter-stream interference cancellation are disclosed. One method includes determining a channel matrix between a plurality of transmitting antennas of a transmitter and a plurality of receiving antennas of a receiver, determining a plurality of channel propagation delays based on a propagation delay between each of the plurality of transmitting antennas and each of the plurality of receiving antennas, preprocessing, by the transmitter, streams of symbols for each transmitting antenna for transmission based on the plurality of channel propagation delays and based on the channel matrix, and transmitting, by the transmitter, the preprocessed symbol streams through the plurality of transmitting antennas.

Apparatuses, methods, and systems for analog spatial multiplexing are disclosed. One apparatus includes a receiver, wherein the receiver includes a plurality of antennas operative to receive a plurality of wireless signals, a plurality of tunable time delays, and a plurality of frequency response equalizers, wherein a time delay of each of the tunable time delays is adjusted based on a feedback of measurements of one or more pilot tones of more than one output of the plurality of frequency response equalizers. The receiver further includes a plurality of frequency up-converters generating a plurality of frequency up-converted signals, a MIMO processor receiving the plurality of frequency up-converted signals, wherein the MIMO processor adjusts a gain and phase of the of the frequency up-converted signals based on the measurements of the pilot tones, and a plurality of frequency down-converters receiving and frequency down-converting output signals from the MIMO processor.
