A data management platform may group a first instance of a set of virtual machines into a backup group for performing a backup of data from a source data storage environment to a target data storage environment in accordance with a backup configuration. The data management platform may receive, from a user, an input to create a second instance of the set of virtual machines at the target data storage environment. In some examples, data backed up to the target data storage environment from the first instance may be configured as a source for the second instance. The data management platform may instantiate, in response to receiving the input, the second instance of the set of virtual machines using the backup configuration for the first instance of the set of virtual machines and the data backed up to the target data storage environment.

Techniques for using data backup and disaster recovery configurations for application management

A data management system (DMS) may support multi cloud failover recovery. For example, the DMS may receive a configuration for a failover recovery procedure. The configuration may include, for a set of virtual machines, respective target environments to which to recover the set of virtual machines as part of the failover recovery procedure. In response to a failover event, the DMS may deploy a respective network translator at the target environments. Additionally, as part of the failover recovery procedure, the DMS may instantiate the set of virtual machines on respective target environments. The network translators may store a location of virtual machines instantiated on the respective target environments. A request to access an application supported by the set of virtual machines may be received at a target environment, and the network translators may be used to route a packet associated with the request between the target environments.

Failover recovery techniques for multi cloud recovery

Techniques for data management at a data management system are described. Characteristics for a set of computing objects managed by a computing system may be determined. The characteristics determined for the set of computing objects may be used to group the computing objects into groups. Based on grouping the computing objects, instructions for recovering the computing objects may be generated. The instructions may be provided to a user as a suggestion. Based on receiving a selection of the suggested instructions, the suggested instructions may be configured for a recovery of the computing objects of the computing system.

Suggesting blueprints for recovering computing objects

A data management system (DMS) may facilitate an investigation procedure for a set of one or more virtual machines (VMs) hosted in a first environment. The DMS may receive an indication of a selection of one or more sets of VMs and corresponding snapshots for the investigation procedure. The corresponding snapshots may be stored in a second environment, and each snapshot may be associated with a version of a respective set of VMs. The DMS may mount the one or more sets of VMs to one or more testing environments different than the first and second environments. The mounting may use the snapshots stored in the second environment to provide the testing environments with query access to respective versions of the sets of VMs hosted in the first environment. The DMS may perform query operations between the first environment and the testing environments as part of the investigation procedure.

Investigation procedures for virtual machines

A storage appliance may be configured to perform a method to evaluate a failover procedure. The method may include receiving a trigger indication to perform a test failover procedure for a plurality of virtual machines and identifying, based on receiving the trigger indication, a set of procedures for performing a full failover procedure on a target system based at least in part on a recovery configuration for the plurality of virtual machines. The method may include selecting a subset of test procedures of the set of procedures, causing execution on the target system of the subset of test procedures on a subset of virtual machines of the plurality of virtual machines, and calculating, based at least in part on the execution of the subset of test procedures on the subset of virtual machines, a success metric associated with the full failover procedure for the plurality of virtual machines.

Application recovery configuration validation

Methods, systems, and devices for data management are described. In some systems, a client may request for a data management system (DMS) to execute a first instance of a query to obtain, from a database, first information that is responsive to the query. The DMS may identify, in response to the query being executed in an execution time that is greater than a threshold amount of time, an improved version of the query that is associated with a second execution time that is less than the threshold amount of time. The DMS may store the improved version of the query. The DMS may retrieve the improved version of the query in response to receiving a second instance of the query. The DMS may execute the improved version of the query after retrieving the improved version from storage to obtain, from the database, second information that is responsive to the query.

Automatic query optimization

Some users of a data management system (DMS) may use multiple computing environments to replicate and store virtual machines (VM)s, such as for backup and recovery purposes. For example, different replication environments may include one or more private data centers, one or more cloud environments or any combination thereof. A user may schedule a failover procedure for an application. A DMS may perform a failover procedure that reduces downtime and eliminates data loss. The DMS may capture and replicate a snapshot of a VM running on a source computing environment to a target computing environment, power down the VM on the source computing environment, capture and replicate a second snapshot of the VM to the target computing environment, and power on the VM at the target computing environment. As the additional snapshot includes a relatively small amount of data replication at the target computing environment may proceed quickly, reducing downtime.
