A filter monitor system ('FMS') module is installed on the engine/vehicle and is connected to the filter systems, sensors and devices to monitor various performance parameters. The module also connects to the engine control module (“ECM”) and draws parameters from the ECM. The FMS module is capable of interfacing with various output devices such as a smartphone application, a display monitor, an OEM telematics system or a service technician's tool on a computer. The FMS module consists of hardware and software algorithms which constantly monitor filter systems and provide information to the end-user. FMS module provides necessary inputs and outputs for electronic sensors and devices.

Electronic filter detection feature for liquid filtration systems

A fluid delivery system for an internal combustion engine and a method of monitoring the fluid delivery system are described. The systems and methods monitor and determine various fluid quality parameters and filter element pressure drop, which can be used to determine real-time estimates of remaining useful life for both the filter element and the fluid. The respective remaining useful life calculations are used by the described systems and methods to determine change intervals for the fluid and the filter element. The change intervals can be synchronized by the systems and methods to reduce the amount of down time due to servicing of the fluid delivery system.

The automatic drain device includes a solenoid, a water-in-fuel sensor, and a controller configured to operate the automatic drain device by activating the solenoid in response to a signal from the water-in-fuel sensor. A filter monitoring system and method are described. The filter monitoring system includes a remote telematics system, and a data link between the remote telematics system and an onboard telematics system. The remote telematics system is configured to receive, via the data link, an indication of a pressure drop across a filter cartridge of the filtration system from the onboard telematics system, determine a first value indicative of a remaining filter life of the filter cartridge of the filtration system, determine a second value indicative of a remaining filter life of the filter cartridge that is determined in a different manner than the first value, compare the first value to the second value to determine which value indicates a least amount of life remaining for the filter cartridge, and transmit an indication of the least amount of life remaining for the filter cartridge based on the comparison.

System and method for outputting filter monitoring system information via telematics

Systems and methods for determining whether an authorized or genuine filter element is installed in a filtration system are described. The authorized filter determination may be based on radio frequency identification ('RFID') technology. RFID readers with antennas in the monitored filter systems read the RFID tag information from the installed filter elements and feed any detected information into the filter monitoring system. The filter monitoring system or a remote diagnostic system analyzes the returned data (or absence thereof) to determine if a genuine (i.e., authorized, OEM approved, etc.) filter element is installed or not.

The filter assembly further includes a filter media coupled to the support frame, the filter media having a dirty side configured to receive a stream of air and a clean side configured to output a stream of air that has been filtered through the filter media. The filter assembly includes a conditioning device coupled to the support frame, the conditioning device positioned in a downstream direction from the clean side of the filter media with respect to the stream of air, the conditioning device offset from the clean side of the filter media by a separation distance.

System and method for improving mass air flow signal quality

A filtration monitoring system is an electronic system control module installed on an internal combustion engine or within a vehicle powered by the internal combustion engine. The filtration monitoring system monitors the health and status of the filtration systems present on the engine. The filtration monitoring system tracks filter loading patterns and predicts remaining service life of the filters by running smart algorithms based on sensor feedback (e.g., pressure sensor feedback, fluid quality characteristic sensor feedback, etc.). In some arrangements, the described filtration monitoring systems provide feedback as to whether a genuine (i.e., authorized, OEM approved, etc.) or unauthorized filter cartridge is installed in a given filtration system. The filtration monitoring system may be retrofit into an existing internal combustion engine or vehicle that does not already have a filtration monitoring system.

An electronic system providing unique identification of a genuine filter system assembly to the engine control unit ('ECU'). A resistor is made to be an integrated part of the filtration system hardware such that when connected through a wired connection, the ECU detects a particular voltage signal and identifies the system as a genuine filter. The resistor could be integrated in any part of the filter system such that it could be used to recognize the filter or the cartridge. The resistor connection could be made via male/female pins, conducting wires, plates, conductive plastic material or other mechanisms.

A filter monitoring system and method are described. The filter monitoring system includes a module or circuit installed on an internal combustion engine or within a vehicle powered by the internal combustion engine. The filter monitoring system monitors the operation of the various filtration systems present on the engine to determine an amount of service life remaining and a loading percentage for various filter cartridges installed in the filtration systems of the internal combustion engine. The filter monitoring system determines the loading percentage and predicts remaining service life of a given filter cartridge via a time-based manner (e.g., based on the installation date of the filter cartridge and filter cartridge life specifications) and a pressure differential based manner (e.g., based on a determination of pressure drop across the filter cartridge).

The application generally relates to digital Engine Integrity Protection (EIP) systems for filters for internal combustion engines and methods of using the digital EIP systems. A pre-programmed digital chip is integrated in filtration hardware such that the Engine Control Unit (ECU) or another controller installed on the engine or vehicle can read encrypted digital signal from the chip when electrically connected with the filter hardware. Based on the read information from the chip, the ECU or controller can determine whether the filter associated with the chip is a genuine filter or a non-genuine filter.
