'Smart' functionality is provided to 'dumb' containers. A closure such as tape is provided with structural nonuniformity, such as holes punched to weaken the material or polymer printing to strengthen the material. Data is encoded in structural nonuniformity, so when the closure is torn, cut, or otherwise yields the data is encoded in the acoustic emission. The structural nonuniformity also may be readable optically or otherwise. Encoded data may include event detection (logging containers opening), package/product information (e.g., lot numbers, contents), validation (e.g., validation codes to distinguish authentic from counterfeit products), and user recognition (e.g., brand jingles, warning sounds). Closures may be made/dispensed with structural nonuniformity in place, and/or structural nonuniformity may be added to closures already securing a portal. Hand-held systems may dispense and/or modify closures with structural nonuniformity.

Determining opening of portals through acoustic emissions

Arrangements are provided for 'smart' functionality with 'dumb' containers, such as for determining medication adherence, tracking product use, and validating product authenticity. An acoustic emitter is engaged with a container or other vehicle. Opening the container causes the acoustic emitter to produce an acoustic emission, without requiring power, processing capacity, or sensors. A cell phone or other station receives and registers acoustic emissions, such as by logging opening of the container, verifying authenticity of the acoustic emission, communicating with an oversight system, or similar. Data as may be encoded in an acoustic emission may include vehicle detection data (e.g., logging a container being opened), vehicle information (e.g., lot number, contents name), vehicle validation (e.g., valid or counterfeit numerical code), and audible user recognition (e.g., brand jingles, warning sounds).

Determining use and validity of vehicles through acoustic emissions

Arrangements are provided for 'smart' functionality such as for tracking medication use to determine adherence, without requiring smart containers therefor. A bin is provided for receiving used/empty containers, packaging, or other discarded material incidental to the use of the medication. Sensors generate signals when the material is deposited within the bin, and a processor determines whether those signals correspond with the incidental material of interest. The processor also may identify when signals correspond with other, spurious material deposited in the bin. Responsive to a positive correspondence, a contextual event such as deposition of a used vial is stored, displayed, communicated, and/or otherwise registered. Contextual events, times therefor, lack of same, etc. are considered to provide authenticated determinations of adherence to a medication regimen. Authenticated adherence determinations may support medication adherence monitoring, medication adherence itself, and/or medication outcomes for patient treatment, clinical trials, etc.

Method and apparatus for smart medication authentication through considering non-smart incidental materials

An RF signal is provided by a base such as a smart phone. A remote is engaged with a medication container. The remote includes an RFPM, RF signal receiver, LO signal generator, and IF signal emitter. An energizer on the remote provides power only as medication is dispensed. While energized, the RFPM modulates the RF signal with an LO signal to produce an IF signal. The existence of the IF signal (characteristic of the RFPM, RF signal, and LO signal) thus indicates medication has been dispensed. The IF signal is detected in the base, and registered (recorded, displayed, communicated, etc.) as an indication that medication has been dispensed. The remote may be configured as a label applied to or a sleeve engaged with an otherwise 'non-smart' container. This provides authenticated data regarding medication adherence, transparent to the user and requiring no additional user actions to register the data.

Determining use of medication through radio frequency passive modulation

A method for providing messaging-related information to a mobile device is discussed. The method includes receiving from the mobile device a request for messaging-related information, using the request to identify a device-type indication for the mobile device, identifying one or more presentation parameters for presenting the messaging-related content properly on the mobile device, and transmitting the messaging-related content to the mobile device in a format corresponding to the one or more parameters.

Systems, methods, and machine-readable media for generating a user interface from a printer description file are discussed. The system comprising an interface module, an option module, and an interface generation module. The interface module may be configured to receive a printer description file comprising a plurality of printer options for a remote printer and the option module may be configured to select a subset of the plurality of printer options for the remote printer based on a list of prioritized printer options. The interface generation module may be configured to generate rendering code based on the subset of the plurality of printer options for the remote printer, the rendering code to enable a computing device to generate a user interface for the remote printer. The rendering code may be transmitted to a computing device in response to receiving, from the computing device, a print request for the remote printer.

System and method for generating a user interface from a printer description

A print server may include an application manager configured to receive a print job from a user and associate the print job with a printer. The print server may include a presence manager configured to provide a presence code for the print job and the printer, and to receive the presence code from the user in conjunction with a physical presence of the user at the printer, and a print job router configured to release the print job for printing by the printer, based on the receipt of the presence code.

Remote printing management for cloud printing

A print server may include an access rights manager configured to receive an access request for printer access rights. The print server may also include a customized printer identifier generator configured to generate a customized printer identifier, based on the access request, with the printer access rights associated therewith, and a print job router configured to provide printing in response to receipt of the customized printer identifier and in accordance with the printer access rights.

An application manager may receive, from an application utilized at a device at a first location, a print job, the print job identifying a virtual print queue and application content to be printed, the application manager being further configured to store the print job in association with the virtual print queue. A print job router may receive, after the storing and from a mobile device at a second location, a print initiation identifying a printer at the second location and the print job, the print job router being further configured to send the application content to the identified printer, based on the print initiation.

Roving printing in a cloud-based print service using a mobile device

A print server may include an anonymous printer registration module configured to receive, at a cloud print service, a registration request from a printer over a network and return a registration response to the printer over the network. The anonymous printer registration module may include a claim code provider configured to provide a claim code included within the registration response to the printer over the network, wherein the printer is configured to provide the claim code to a user of the printer, and a printer matcher configured to receive the claim code from the user over the network and match a user account of the user within the cloud print service with the printer, in response to the receipt of the claim code from the user.

Anonymous printer registration in a cloud-based print service

A printer may include a registration requester configured to receive an initiation request from a user to initiate a registration of the printer, and further configured to send a registration request to a cloud print service over a network. The printer may include a claim facilitator configured to receive a registration response from the cloud print service over the network, the registration response including a claim code, and further configured to provide, using printer functionality, the claim code to the user. The printer also may include an authentication manager configured to request an authentication credential issued by the cloud print service in response to a matching of the printer with a user account of the user within the cloud print service, the matching based on a receipt of the claim code from the user at the cloud print service, and further configured to receive and store the authentication credential at the printer.

Printer with anonymous printer registration in a cloud-based print service

The embodiments provide a print server including at least one processor, and a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium including instructions executable by the at least one processor. The instructions are configured to implement an application manager configured to receive a print request over a network from an application associated with a device, and a printer searcher configured to determine printer search criteria associated with the print request, search a plurality of available printers associated with a user account of a user of the application based on the determined printer search criteria, and determine a subset of available printers based on the search. The application manager is configured to provide, over the network, a print dialog to the user of the application in response to the print request, where the print dialog may be configured to provide a list of the subset of available printers.

Printer search and selection for a cloud-based print service

The embodiments provide a data processing system including a print dialog manager configured to provide a print dialog in response to receipt of a print request for content to be printed in accordance with at least one printing option from a user of an application associated with a device. The print dialog identifies at least one printer and provides the at least one printing option. The data processing system includes a print preview generator configured to generate a print preview providing the content displayed in accordance with the at least one printing option within the print dialog, and a user interface controller configured to receive a selection of the at least one printing option through the displayed content. The print preview generator is configured to change the displayed content of the print preview according to the selection of the at least one printing option received through the displayed content.
