The present invention provides thermosetting resin pre-impregnated or infused fiber materials or prepregs comprising a thermosetting resin mixture and a fiber material component of a heat resistant fiber, such as carbon fiber, having an areal weight of from 500 to 3,000 g/m2 having a coating of from 0.5 to 4 phr of a latent, particulate curative or solid curative, preferably, dicyandiamide, wherein the prepregs are infused with a thermosetting resin mixture comprising (a) at least one liquid epoxy resin, and (b) a hardener and/or a catalyst, as well as methods of making the same. The prepregs of present invention enables the simple provision of lightweight composites having consistent resin cure throughout.

Connector for joining photovoltaic components

A connector system is configured for macro motion. Two mating terminals are configured so that during macro motion cycles, the resistance between two terminals does not substantially increase. One terminal can have multiple, somewhat spherical-shaped mating surfaces while a mating surface on the other terminal can be flat. The mating terminals can be configured to provide desirable resistance performance after more than 5000 cycles of macro motion.

A composition includes specific amounts of a virgin poly(arylene ether) resin and a rubber-modified polystyrene that is preferably derived from post-consumer recycling. The composition includes about 0.2 to about 1.5 weight percent of polymerized acrylonitrile residue that can originate as a contaminant in the recycled rubber-modified polystyrene. The composition avoids the need for compatibilizing agents required by related compositions.

Thermoplastic compositions and methods of making the compositions are disclosed. The thermoplastic compositions include poly(arylene ether), a poly(alkenyl aromatic), an organophosphate ester flame retardant, a functionalized polysiloxane, and an organic acid. The thermoplastic compositions produce surprisingly low smoke density when burned, and they are useful for the fabrication of articles for the transportation and building and construction industries.

A profile extruded article includes a composition that is formed by melt-kneading particular amounts of a poly(arylene ether), a polystyrene-poly(ethylene-butylene)-polystyrene triblock copolymer, a homopolystyrene, and a polysalicylate. The article is particularly useful in the fabrication of solar collectors for low cost solar energy systems.

A method of preparing a purified dianhydride is provided where said method comprises the steps of preparing a first mixture comprising water, at least one inorganic acid, and at least one dianhydride, said dianhydride comprising at least one impurity which is soluble in aqueous acid heating said first mixture until substantially all of said dianhydride is converted to a tetraacid comprised in a second mixture; filtering at least a portion of said second mixture to provide a solid tetraacid and a filtrate, said filtrate comprising at least a portion of said impurity; and heating the tetraacid provided in a solvent with concurrent distillation of water to provide a third mixture comprising a purified dianhydride and a solvent.
