Described herein is a system and method of automatically monitoring QT intervals in a patient based on one or more EKG signals received from attached monitoring devices. Each EKG signal is analyzed to detect attributes of the first and second EKG signals, including QRS onset information, QRS peak information, and T-wave offset information. A QT interval is calculated based on QRS onset information derived from the first EKG signal and T-wave offset information derived from the second EKG signal. The calculated QT interval is compared to thresholds to detect elongation of the QT interval and an alert is generated in response to a detected elongated QT interval.

QT interval determination methods and related devices

A patient monitoring device includes reusable and disposable portions. The disposable portion includes two or more electrodes for coupling to the skin of the patient, a battery, and a first set of electrical contacts. The reusable portion includes a processor, memory, a second set of electrical contacts, and sensing circuitry coupled to the at least two electrodes, wherein the reusable portion is mechanically coupleable to the disposable portion and wherein the reusable portion is electrically coupleable to the disposable portion through the first and second electrical contacts. The sensing circuitry and the processor are powered from the battery through the coupled first and second electrical contacts, and wherein when the reusable portion and the disposable portion are mechanically uncoupled after having been mechanically coupled, the disposable portion is rendered unusable by the process of mechanically uncoupling the reusable portion and the disposable portion.

Separable monitoring device and method

A system and method of flagging monitored ECG samples for urgent review by a human expert is described, and includes monitoring an electro-cardiogram (ECG) signal of the patient with an adherent device that includes a plurality of electrodes. Based on the monitored ECG signal, detected rhythm abnormalities in the patient are detected and ECG samples are collected with respect to detected rhythm abnormalities. One or more features are identified with respect to each ECG sample, and the features are utilized to flag ECG samples for urgent review by a human expert.

System and method to flag arrhythmia episodes for urgent review

A system and method of monitoring and reporting premature ventricular contractions (PVCs) detected in a patient is described. The method includes monitoring an electro-cardiogram (ECG) signal of the patient with an adherent device that includes a plurality of electrodes. Premature ventricular contraction (PVC) beats are detected based on the monitored ECG signal, and ECG episodes associated with detected PVC beats are stored for subsequent analysis. A morphology signal is calculated by quantifying the stored ECG episodes associated with detected PVC beats, wherein the morphology signal numerically represents the shape of the detected PVC beat. The PVC beats are then numerically clustered based on the calculated morphology signals to group PVC beats having a similar morphology or shape, and a report is generated based on the clustering of the PVC beats.

System and method to determine premature ventricular contraction (PVC) type and burden

A system and method of detecting and classifying atrial fibrillations (AFs) monitors an electro-cardiogram (ECG) signal of the patient. Based on the monitored ECG signals, AF episodes are detected. Monitored physiological parameters are utilized to determine an activity level of the patient at the time of the detected AF episode, wherein the activity level is associated with the detected AF episode. The etiology of the detected AF episodes is classified as adrenergic if the AF episodes occur while the patient is active, and classified as vagal if the AF episodes occur while the patient is at rest.

System and method for monitoring and classifying atrial fibrillations

Systems and methods for management of physiological data, for example data obtained from monitoring an electrocardiogram signal of a patient. In one example use, digital data is obtained and episodes of arrhythmias are detected. Snapshots of the digitized ECG signal may be stored for later physician review. One or more techniques may be used to avoid recording of redundant data, while ensuring that at least a minimum number of episodes of each detected arrhythmia can be stored. The system may automatically tailor its data collection to the cardiac characteristics of a particular patient. In one technique, memory is allocated to include for each detectable arrhythmia a memory segment designated to receive ECG snapshots representing only the respective arrhythmia. A shared memory pool may receive additional snapshots of as the designated memory segments fill.

Heuristic management of physiological data

A neurostimulation system senses a signal indicative of a patient's physical state such as posture and/or activity level. In various embodiments, a stored value for each of stimulation parameters controlling delivery of neurostimulation is selected according to the patient's physical state. In various embodiments, values of the stimulation parameters are approximately optimized for each of a number of different physical states, and are stored for later selection.

Method and apparatus for controlling neurostimulation according to physical state

One embodiment of the present invention relates to a system for deriving physiologic measurement values that are relative to ambient conditions. In one embodiment, the system comprises an implantable medical device ('IMD'), an external computing device, and a backend computing system. The IMD determines a physiologic parameter value within a patient's body, and communicates the physiologic parameter value outside the patient's body, for example, to the external computing device. Further, the external computing device receives the physiologic parameter from the IMD and communicates it to the backend computing system. The backend computing system receives the physiologic parameter value and obtains an ambient condition value outside the body. The backend computing system then calculates a relative physiologic parameter value from the ambient condition value and the physiologic parameter value, and in some embodiments, stores the relative physiologic parameter value in a storage location, such as a memory or database.

Systems and methods for deriving relative physiologic measurements

All or a portion of a surface of an implantable sensor is covered with a biocompatible coating formed at least partially of a biomaterial matrix having properties that promote a substantially even growth of tissue cells over the surface of the coating. Additional materials, such as growth factors, agents that recruit endogenous stem cells, and cell adhesion motif arginine, glycine, aspartic acid may be included in the coating. Autologous cells may be added to the coating prior to implantation. The sensor surface may also be textured, by etching or abrading, in order to promote even tissue growth. Alternatively, the sensor surface may be covered with a coating having properties that inhibit the growth of tissue. These coatings may include a biomaterial, a biomaterial matrix having a drug, such as a sirolimus or a steroid, an active component, or a self assembled monolayer.

An apparatus comprises a cardiac signal sensing circuit configured to sense an electrical cardiac signal from at least one of an atrium or ventricle of a heart of a subject, a therapy circuit configured to provide electrical pacing therapy and electrical autonomic neural modulation therapy to the subject, and a control circuit. The control circuit is configured to initiate delivery of the autonomic modulation neural therapy, and the control circuit includes a signal detection circuit configured to detect delivery of the autonomic neural modulation therapy in the sensed cardiac signal. The control circuit is configured to change, in response to detecting the delivery, a sensitivity of the cardiac signal sensing circuit during delivery of the autonomic neural modulation therapy.

Managing cross therapy sensing in a multiple therapy implantable device

One aspect of the present subject matter relates to an implantable medical device. An embodiment of the device comprises a rechargeable power supply adapted to be recharged through an ultrasound signal, a neural stimulator connected to the rechargeable power supply, and a controller connected to the rechargeable power supply. The neural stimulator is adapted to generate a neural stimulation signal for delivery to a neural stimulation target through an electrode. The controller is further connected to the neural stimulator to control the neural stimulator according to a neural stimulation protocol. Other aspects are provided herein.

A piezoelectric element within an external ultrasonic transducer assembly can be used for wireless communication of data between an implantable device and the external ultrasonic transducer assembly such as using ultrasonic energy coupled to a flexible portion of a housing of the transducer assembly. The flexible portion can be configured to contact skin of a body containing the implantable device. The transducer assembly can be configured to respectively transmit or receive ultrasonic energy using at least partially overlapping respective ranges of resonant frequencies.
