An apparatus for inspecting an SMT printed circuit board includes an inspection head mounted to an X-Y table, for directed movement above the SMT printed circuit board which is to be inspected. The inspection head is caused to proceed to successive viewing fields along the surface of the SMT printed circuit board, for inspection by a series of cameras disposed within the inspection head together with appropriate lighting which is selected according to the inspection which is to be performed. Prior to soldering, it is determined whether each of the series of components to be placed on the printed circuit board were deposited as scheduled, and whether the deposited components were correctly positioned. Following the soldering procedure, it is again determined whether each component remains present on the board, and in its correct position, and steps are taken to inspect the solder fillets, and to inspect for any solder bridges.

Apparatus for inspecting printed circuit boards with surface mounted

A compensating system for insepcting potentially warped printed circuit boards provides the insepction head of a printed circuit board inspection apparatus with a compensating device which is capable of detecting deviations in the printed circuit board which depart from a reference standard, for use in accurately compensating for such deviations during the board inspection procedure. An appropriate source (including ultrasonic, laser and directed light sources) is used to direct emissions toward the surface of a printed circuit board to be inspected. Detected reflections are then used to provide information useful in determining deviations of the surface of the printed circuit board from the reference standard, to adjust the anticipated locations for any component features, connecting leads or pins which are to be inspected within the subject viewing field.

Compensating system for inspecting potentially warped printed circuit

A fail-safe protection circuit for a data processor controlled system having a data bus for carrying data and comprising first logic for checking the operation of the data processor controlled system at periodic intervals not greater than T.sub.1 and for producing a trigger pulse at each check if the data processor is operating properly, second logic for detecting the absence of trigger pulses for a time period T.sub.2 to produce a control signal. Gating logic is responsive to the control signal to prevent the transmission of data through the data bus and a control circuit is also responsive to the control signal to reset the system to a predetermined operating state. The first logic responds to the resetting of the system to again produce the periodic trigger pulses if the system is operating properly.

Fail-safe circuit for a microcomputer based system

A remote control system utilizes a portion of television receiver system to control an external appliance through the AC power supply line. The user enters an appliance control command into the keyboard of the television remote control unit. Inside the television receiver, the appliance control command is encoded and modulated onto a carrier signal which is transmitted on the AC power supply line. An external appliance control module, also connected to the AC power supply line, is located near the external appliance for detecting the encoded appliance control command and for selectively controlling the AC power supplied to the external appliance.

A relative humidity measuring instrument includes two spaced electrodes on an insulating substrate which is mounted on a Peltier-effect thermoelectric module. When the substrate is cooled by the thermoelectric module, a comparator connected to the electrodes on the substrate detects a decrease in resistance between said electrodes due to condensation of moisture therebetween. Then a microcomputer receptive to temperature signals from a thermometer on the substrate and an ambient thermometer computes the relative humidity.
