The invention concerns synthesized amido-amine-based cationic gemini surfactants with flexible and rigid spacers and different hydrophobic. These gemini surfactants were prepared by modified procedure through amidation of long chain carboxylic acids using 3-(dimethylamino)-1-propylamine followed by treatment with halohydrocarbons and showed excellent thermal stability and surface properties useful for various oilfield applications such as enhanced oil recovery.

Gemini surfactant composition and method for treating subterranean rock

A method of inhibiting carbon dioxide (CO) hydrate formation in a COpipeline is described. The method includes injecting a composition including monoethylene glycol carbon quantum dots (MEG CQDs) into the COpipeline to deposit the MEG CQDs on an inside surface of the COpipeline. The method further includes pressurizing the COpipeline with a gas stream containing COand water vapor at a pressure of 200-2,000 pounds per square inch (psi). The MEG CQDs are present on the inside surface of the COpipeline in an amount effective to reduce the formation of COhydrates in the COpipeline during the pressurizing in comparison to the formation of the COhydrates in the COpipeline under the same conditions but in the absence of the MEG CQDs.

A method of removing calcium-containing water-based filter cake from a wellbore involving contacting the calcium-containing filter cake with a biodegradable acid solution of water, hydrochloric acid, formic acid, citric acid, and a surfactant. The method is performed at a pressure of 200 to 400 psi and a temperature of 50 to 125&#xb0; C. The method removes calcium-containing filter cake made of water, calcium carbonate, a polymer or starch and a clay. The method meets industry standard steel corrosion rates of less than 0.049 lb/ftper day. Also disclosed is a biodegradable acid solution of water, hydrochloric acid, formic acid, citric acid, and a surfactant that meets OECD 301B thresholds for ready biodegradability.

A silane-modified colloidal silica in the form of a Pickering emulsion and a method for enhancing recovery of hydrocarbons and improving conformance using it. When injected into an oil well, the silane-modified colloidal silica separates into an aqueous phase and oil/oleic phase. The aqueous phase forms a gel that blocks the flow of water and the oleic phase that forms permits oil to flow out of the well.

Method of converting calcium bentonite to sodium bentonite that is suitable for use as drilling mud or a cement additive. The method comprises preparing a suspension comprising sea water and calcium bentonite at a pH in the range of 8-11, and continuously heating and stirring the suspension for a time in the range of 12 hours to 36 hours. Additives such as soda ash and sodium salt of ethylenediamineteraraacetc acid (EDTA) may be added to the suspension to improve the properties of the product sodium bentonite.

Organoclay is used as an alternative emulsifier and reinforcing agent to enhance the strength of emulsified polymeric gel aqueous solutions and form water in oil emulsions. The stability of the emulsion can be controlled by controlling salinity and the intensity of initial mixing. The new system can be used for water shut-off treatments as well as a relative permeability modifier in high water permeability zones. In addition, the system can tolerate salts much better than classical surfactants. This system will be appropriate for wellbores having high temperature (&#x3e;85&#xb0; C.) with harsh environmental conditions.

This disclosure relates to a system and method for applying a prediction of permeability of shale gas in porous media at different pressure conditions to a shale gas production. The method uses a molecular model that accounts for slippage and adsorption effects under the different pressure conditions including simulated gas flows in a large computational domain representing a sample of shale rock. This system and method provides a computationally efficient processing to determine permeability variations of shale gas with the different pressure conditions.

A well-bore monitoring process involving logging the temperature of a soil, rock, and brine mixture present in a carbonate formation continuously, and simultaneously logging the resistivity of the soil, rock, and brine mixture in the carbonate formation continuously. The logged temperature and the logged resistivity are interpreted whereby concurrent events in the logged temperature and the logged resistivity identify dissolution of rock into the mixture and precipitation of scale from the mixture. The simultaneous logging of the temperature and the resistivity is conducted in a well-bore in the carbonate rock formation.

Method of converting calcium bentonite to sodium bentonite that is suitable for use as drilling mud or a cement additive. After the addition of a calcium bentonite sample to a prepared soda ash solution at predetermined soda ash/bentonite weight ratios, the bentonite suspension is continuously heated and stirred for up to 24 h. The heating and stirring are crucial towards enhancing the sodium activation of the bentonite, as well as other rheological properties of the bentonite.
