Disclosed herein is a medical device for tracking movement of a region of a patient's body. The region has a range of motion, for example a range of respiratory motion. The device comprises a controller configured to determine a motion of the region based on one or more initial images depicting at least part of the region. The controller is further configured to predict, based on the determined motion, a motion event time at which at least one property associated with the motion or position of the region will meet at least one criterion, wherein the at least one criterion comprises the region being located at a particular point in its range of motion. The controller is further configured to determine, based on the predicted motion event time, at least one subsequent image capture time at which at least one subsequent image should be captured.

Optimised tracking of a region of a patient's body

A radiotherapy device can include a radiation source configured to deliver kilovolt (KV) or megavolt (MV) radiation and a detector configured to detect the delivered radiation and generate a plurality of images of a subject located between the radiation source and the detector. The radiotherapy device can further include a controller configured to detect an erroneous pixel in an image of the plurality of images and generate an averaged image. Each pixel of the averaged image can be generated by taking an average of two or more respective pixels in two or more corresponding locations of one or more of the plurality of images, and generating a pixel of the averaged image in a corresponding location to the erroneous pixel comprises excluding the erroneous pixel from the taking of the average.

Removing artefacts in radiotherapy imaging

Embodiments of the present disclosure provide improved techniques for dosimetry in radiotherapy treatment. In a fractionated radiotherapy treatment, once the first fraction is complete and has been verified, data is generated which is representative of the dose development during delivery of the treatment for that patient and that treatment plan. This data can be used as a comparator for the instantaneous doses observed during subsequent fractions, allowing real-time dosimetry verification for the second and subsequent fractions after a successful first fraction.

Dosimetry techniques for radiotherapy

Embodiments of the present disclosure provide improved techniques for dosimetry in radiotherapy treatment. In a fractionated radiotherapy treatment, the expected dose buildup is computed in advance of a fraction delivery based on the instructions in the treatment plan. The progress of the fraction is then monitored using an electronic portal image detector (EPID), and fluence data from the EPID used to calculate an estimate of the actual dose build-up in real time. This estimate can be compared to the expected dose buildup in order to validate the fraction.

Embodiments of the invention provide systems and methods for evaluating treatment parameters for a patient undergoing radiotherapy. The method includes the step of generating a portal dosimetry image showing differences between a planning image obtained prior to a treatment session and a portal image obtained during the treatment session. A database of prior portal dosimetry results is accessed, and a processor is used to perform a similarity measurement between the portal dosimetry image and the prior portal dosimetry results. Based on the similarity measurement, the system determines whether radiation was delivered as planned during the treatment session.
