An adsorptive separation device is disclosed having at least one spiral wound adsorption membrane situated around the periphery of a core mandrel wherein the flow is radial from a feed plenum situated between the core mandrel and the membrane, through the membrane to a permeate plenum located between the membrane and a housing for both the core mandrel and the spiral wound membrane. An array of such separation devices is also disclosed showing connections in parallel, in series, in both parallel and in series and in tandem.

Adsorptive substance separation device

Adsorptive separation is performed on liquid media by directing the media containing a target substance through an adsorber stage A whereby the target substance is adsorbed; in the last phase of loading stage A and prior to breakthrough of the target substance in the stage A permeate, the stage A permeate is directed to a second adsorber stage B. Upon completion of the stage A loading, the target substance from stage A is eluted with buffer solution, which buffer solution is introduced to stage B, and liquid medium is directed to the preloaded stage A, while stage A is eluted so as both recover the target substance and regenerate the adsorptive capacity of stage A.

Tandem system for adsorptive separation

A dead-end filtration unit without a housing comprising at least one filter cassette, each cassette comprising a plurality of laminar sections of porous adsorptive membrane, which have been rendered fluid-impermeable on their peripheries, the cassettes being sealingly compressed between two filter retainers fitted with feed inlet and permeate outlet and wherein the laminar sections are made of the same or different membrane adsorber types.

Dead-end membrane adsorbers

Fabrication of the surface-grafted microporous membranes by coating the membrane with an N-halogenated compound, followed by grafting with an unsaturated monomer and sodium dithionite in a primarily aqueous solution that may contain an organic halogen compound selected from carbon tetrachloride and trichloroacetic acid. The coating may be formed in situ and may be cross-linked.
