Non-linear dielectrics used as electrical insulation for rotating electrical machinery

An article is provided that includes a plurality of layers. Each layer includes a sinterable mass having a sinter temperature that is less than about 1000 degrees Celsius, and an inner electrode proximate to the sinterable mass. The inner electrode includes a material having a melting point that is within a determined temperature range of about 10 degrees Celsius to about 200 degrees Celsius relative to the sintering temperature. A method to make the article is also provided.

Electronic device and method

A varistor pre-assembly includes an electrode formable structure and a sinterable mass proximate to electrode formable structure. The electrode formable structure includes a material having a melting point that may be within a determined temperature relative to a sintering temperature of the sinterable mass. The electrode formable structure and sinterable mass may form a varistor when simultaneously subjected to the sintering temperature, which may be less than about 1000 degrees Celsius. A method to make the article is also provided.

Method and apparatus for detecting partial discharges in electrical systems

In one embodiment, a combustion apparatus comprises: an oxidant inlet, a fuel inlet, a mixing zone configured to mix fuel and oxidant to form a mixture, a combustion zone in fluid communication with the mixing zone and configured to combust the mixture, and an outlet in fluid communication with the combustion zone. The mixing zone, the combustion zone, and/or the outlet comprises an electro-dynamic swirler configured to swirl ionized gas. The electro-dynamic swirler comprises a plurality of electrodes in electrical communication with a power source. In one embodiment, a method of creating thrust comprises: mixing a fuel and an oxidant to form a mixture, igniting the mixture to form an ignited mixture, combusting the ignited mixture to form a flame, and using the flame to create thrust, wherein the flame and/or the fuel and oxidant are electro-dynamically swirled.

According to this example embodiment, the plurality of electrically charged particles may flow through the swirling chamber or chambers, causing at least one of the plurality of electrically charged particles to rotate about a radial axis of the swirling chamber as a result of the electrical field.

The method includes providing an electrostatic precipitator including an inlet, a collector chamber and an outlet, where the collector chamber includes a plurality of discharge electrodes and a plurality of collector electrodes. A dielectric barrier discharge device for generating a plasma discharge is disclosed. The device includes a first electrode, a second electrode separated from the first electrode, and a dielectric material disposed between the two electrodes.
