A glass-ceramic material includes an oxynitride glass with a chemical formula CaAlSiOsNand zinc oxide. The zinc oxide is present in an amount of 8 to 16 percent by weight based on the total weight of the glass-ceramic material. The zinc oxide is doped in the oxynitride glass. The glass-ceramic material has one or more conductive channels having a length of 100 to 1000 μm and a width of 0.5 to 10 μm.

Development of oxynitride glass-ceramics preparations and uses thereof

An aerosol-assisted chemical vapor-deposition (AACVD) method of making nickel sulfide (NiS) nanowires. The method includes depositing a nickel carbamate compound onto a conductive support by an AACVD technique to form nickel sulfide (NiS) nanowires on the conductive support, where the nanowires are present directly on a surface of the conductive support. The NiS electrode prepared by the process of the present disclosure showed excellent OER activity in 1.0 M KOH solution, with a low Tafel value (60 mV dec) and good OER stability. The NiS nanowires, as prepared, can be used in energy conversion devices such as batteries, fuel cells, and supercapacitors.

Aerosol-assisted chemical vapor deposition of nickel sulfide nanowires for electrochemical water oxidation

An aerosol-assisted chemical vapor-deposition (AACVD) method of making NiPd nano-alloy electrocatalyst. The method includes subjecting a mixture including Pd(II)acetylacetonate Pd(CHO), Ni(II)acetylacetonate Ni(CHO)and a solvent to AACVD, to form a NiPd nano-alloy electrocatalyst. The NiPd nano-alloy electrocatalyst is formed on a surface of a porous metallic substrate in a single-step. The electrocatalyst of the present disclosure exhibits excellent OER activity, demonstrates excellent durability during prolonged water electrolysis experiments and imposing kinetics for OER.

NiPd nano-alloy film as a electrocatalyst and methods of preparation thereof

A method to form a phase change material (PCM). The method includes preparing a polymer solution by mixing an amount of a polymer in a solvent and mixing the polymer solution with an UiO-66 metal-organic framework (MOF) to form a composite. The polymer is a polyethylene glycol (PEG). The method further includes subjecting the composite to ultrasonic agitation and evaporating the solvent from the composite to form the PCM. After the evaporation of the solvent, particles of the PCM exhibit rounded octahedral structures.

Solution phase method for making phase change materials

Platinum films can be obtained by aerosol assisted chemical vapor deposition (AACVD) using one or more Pt-dialkyldithiocarbamate complexes of formula Pt(SCNR), wherein R is independently alkyl, aryl, or alkaryl, particularly as single source precursors. Such methods may include heating a substrate to a deposition temperature above 150&#xb0; C. in a reactor; and introducing into the reactor, at the deposition temperature, an aerosol including a platinum dithiocarbamate compound, salt, and/or solvate thereof, to thereby deposit the platinum layer on the substrate. The Pt(SCNR)-derived films have well-connected and defect-free surface topography and better catalytic performance, likely due to their high conductivity and reflectivity.

Aerosol assisted chemical vapor deposition methods useful for making dye-sensitized solar cells with platinum dialkyldithiocarbamate complexes

Bearing steel comprising cubic boron nitride (c-BN) and/or nickel coated cBN spark plasma sintered at a temperature in the range of 850-1050&#xb0; C. is disclosed. The tribological and corrosion resistance of the bearing steel improved with increasing the amount of c-BN. Further improvement in the properties was achieved with the incorporation of nickel coated c-BN, which caused a phase transition of the bearing steel from magnetic to non-magnetic phase accompanied by interdiffusion enhancement between the matrix and c-BN reinforcement.

Spark plasma sintered cBN and Ni-cBN bearing steel

A method of making a nanostructured palladium thin film electrode is described. The method involves contacting a substrate with an aerosol comprising a solvent and a Pd(II) compound. The substrate is heated, and no hydrogen gas or an additional reducing agent is required to reduce the Pd(II) to form the deposited thin film. The nanostructured palladium thin film electrode is capable of detecting compounds such as hydrazine in an aqueous sample with a 10 nM limit of detection.

Aerosol assisted deposition process for forming palladium thin film electrode

A synthetic methodology for robust, nanostructured films of cobalt oxide over metal evaporated gold or similar material layer of, e.g., 50 nm, directly onto glass or other substrates via aerosol assisted chemical vapor deposition (AACVD). This approach allows film growth rates in the range of, e.g., 0.8 nm/s, using a commercially available precursor, which is &#x2dc;10-fold the rate of electrochemical synthetic routes. Thus, 250 nm thick cobalt oxide films may be generated in only 5 minutes of deposition time. The water oxidation reaction for such films may start at &#x2dc;0.6 V vs Ag/AgCl with current density of 10 mA/cmand is achieved at &#x2dc;0.75 V corresponding to an overpotential of 484 mV. This current density is further increased to 60 mA/cmat &#x2dc;1.5 V (vs Ag/AgCl). Electrochemically active surface area (ECSA) calculations indicate that the synergy between a Au-film, acting as electron sink, and the cobalt oxide film(s), acting as catalytic layer(s), are more pronounced than the surface area effects.

Method of forming phase change material

A method of forming an alkali metal-doped calcium-SiAlON material is provided. The method includes mixing calcium-SiAlON powder and an alkali metal hydroxide to form a reaction mixture. The mixture further includes spark plasma sintering (SPS) the reaction mixture at 800 to 940 degrees Celsius (&#xb0; C.) to form the alkali metal-doped calcium-SiAlON material. The alkali metal hydroxide is present in an amount of 0.1 to 10 weight percentage (wt. %), based on a total weight of the reaction mixture.

Method of forming an alkali metal-doped calcium-SiA1ON material

A method of making a &#x3b2;-SiAlON is described in involves mixing nanoparticles of AlN, AlO, and SiOwith particles of SiNand spark plasma sintering the mixture. The sintering may be at a temperature of 1450-1600&#xb0; C. or about 1500&#xb0; C. The particles of SiNmay be nanoparticles comprising amorphous SiN, or 25-55 &#x3bc;m diameter microparticles comprising &#x3b2;-SiN.

Method of forming a &#x3b2;SiAlON by spark plasma sintering

A method for making ceramic composites via sintering a mixture of alumina and oil fly ash. The alumina is in the form of nanoparticles and/or microparticles. The oil fly ash may be treated with an acid prior to the sintering. The composite may comprise graphite carbon derived from oil fly ash dispersed in an alumina matrix. The density, mechanical performance (e.g. Vickers hardness, fracture toughness), and thermal properties (e.g. thermal expansion, thermal conductivity) of the ceramic composites prepared by the method are also specified.

Fabrication of nanostructured palladium thin film for electrochemical detection of hydrazine

A thin film electrode involving a nanostructured catalytic material deposited onto a surface of a conducting substrate and method of making is described. The nanostructured catalytic material contains cobalt oxide nanoflowers having a central core and nanopetals extending from the central core. The method of making the thin film electrode involves contacting the conducting substrate with an aerosol containing a cobalt complex and a solvent. A method of using the thin film electrode in an electrochemical cell for water splitting is also provided.
