An example methodology includes, responsive to receiving a first volume creation request to create one or more volumes on a storage device, creating a first operation object for the first volume creation request and determining that a waiting buffer is appropriate for the first operation object. The method also includes placing the first operation object in the waiting buffer and, responsive to a determination that the first operation object is a first operation object placed in the waiting buffer, notifying a waiting buffer thread of the first operation object in the waiting buffer. The method further includes, upon expiration of a predetermined buffer waiting period defined for the waiting buffer, by the waiting buffer thread, extracting the first volume creation request and a second volume creation request from the waiting buffer, combining the first and second operation objects into single workload, and executing the single workload.

Optimized throughput of volume creations

A storage system management system contains an exclusion window override system that enables a user to automatically override an exclusion window when a severe security issue requires immediate action on the storage system. The exclusion window override system does not remove an exclusion window, but rather enables execution of an exception to the exclusion window only if a given configuration request is: (1) included within an allowed subset of management operations; (2) associated with a valid Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) that has a severity level in excess of a select security threshold; and (3) directed to a storage volume used by an application that is vulnerable to the identified CVE. In response to a determination that all of (1), (2), and (3) are true, the exclusion window override is permitted. In response to a determination that any of (1), (2), or (3) is false, the configuration request is denied.

Selective automatic override of a configuration management exclusion window

A method comprising: receiving, at a management application, a first definition of a control window, the first definition specifying the control window in a local time of a time zone where the management application is being executed, wherein the first definition identifies: (i) a first start time for the control window, (ii) a first end time for the control window, and (iii) one or more days of the week when the control window should be enforced; detecting an applicable time in the time zone, the applicable time being one of standard time or daylight savings time; generating a second definition of the control window that corresponds to the applicable time, the second definition specifying the control window in a standardized time format, the second definition being generated based on the first definition; and causing the control window to be enforced in a storage array in accordance with the second definition.

Method and apparatus for supporting control windows

Storage array health scores based on alerts are auto-corrected by using alert validation and alert matching to identify missed, stale, and redundant alerts. In response to restoration of an event daemon or reboot of a storage management server, each alert associated with each storage array is validated to determine whether current state of storage array hardware or a logical object differs from the state indicated in the alert. Alerts that differ from current state are updated or invalidated and the health score is recalculated. Responsive to receipt of a new alert, existing alerts associated with the same storage array hardware or logical object are identified and Jaro-Winkler distance between the identified alerts and the new alert is calculated. Any existing alert for which the Jaro-Winkler distance relative to the new alert is greater than or equal to 0.9 is deleted and the health score is recalculated.

Auto-correct health score related to alerts from storage objects

Job report objects (Java objects) are created by task executors in connection with implementation of a job on a storage system. The Java objects are passed to a job report service that converts the Java objects into XML objects using an XML encoder/decoder. The XML objects are persisted by the job report service as text in a database. If a job report is requested, the job report service retrieves a job record for the corresponding report from the database, creates Java objects, and passes the Java objects to a storage system management client. The client creates an internal model of the report containing a corresponding set of strongly typed TypeScript objects. The TypeScript objects are passed to a pdf data exporter that converts the internal TypeScript objects into untyped JavaScript objects. The untyped JavaScript objects are input to a .pdf generator which generates the requested report as a .pdf document.

Modeling, persisting, and presenting job reports in a storage system management application

One or more aspects of the present disclosure relate to a storage health status. In embodiments, one or more events corresponding to a storage array can be received. Each event can include an alert. A type of each event can also be identified. For each event having a qualifying type, at least one prior event made obsolete by each received event can be cleared.

Storage device health status controller

In a storage system with multiple storage arrays configured to replicate a storage object, storage management applications are configured to exchange communications via private data replication links by encoding the communications as XML files and writing the files to their local storage array under a shared operating system. Other storage management applications poll their local storage arrays, discover the files, and then decode and read the communications. The communications may include messages, requests, and responses. Topics of interest may be specified in messages. Specific storage arrays may be designated as targets of requests. Responses are sent by encoding the responses as XML files and writing the files to respective local storage arrays under a shared operating system.

Mechanism for peer-to-peer communication between storage management systems

Techniques for performing management operations may include: creating a job using a graphical user interface (GUI) of an application, wherein the job includes at least one task and the job performs a first management operation including the at least one task; storing first information that describes the job in an application database for the application; and performing first processing that generates a code module for the job, wherein said first processing uses the first information from the application database. The code module may be a script written in a target script language. Multiple providers may converts different types of tasks to scripts. The providers may register prior to performing the first processing. Registering may include each provider declaring each type of task the provider converts to a specified target scripting language. The task types may be organized in a hierarchy of classes or categories.

Techniques for converting jobs into scripts

Techniques are provided for providing a type-based message bus with message type hierarchies for non-object oriented languages. In an example, a type-aware message bus receives a subscription message from a subscriber that identifies an object-oriented class. The message bus determines an event channel that corresponds to the class, and subscribes the subscriber to the event channel. The message bus also determines any event channels that correspond to a subclass of the class, and subscribes the subscriber to those event channels. When a publisher publishes a message to an event channel, the message bus publishes the message to each subscriber of the event channel, which can have the effect of publishing the message to subscribers that originally subscribed to superclass event channels of the event channel.
