A replacement lamp for an airport runway sign. Light is produced by a linear array of white-light LEDs. A cylindrical lens is mounted longitudinally adjacent to the LEDs, and collects a central portion of the light emitted from the LEDs. A pair of inclined surfaces extend from the lateral edges of the LEDs to respective lateral edges of the cylindrical lens. The inclined surfaces have a rough surface texture and reflect light diffusely. The inclined surfaces collect a peripheral portion of the light emitted from the LEDs, and direct the reflected light toward the cylindrical lens. The LEDs, cylindrical lens and inclined surfaces are all mechanically supported by a heat sink. The replacement lamp is placed into a runway sign near its top or bottom edge, and illuminates both viewing surfaces of the runway sign simultaneously without a diffuser.

Replaceable single LED lamp for runway sign

Retainer clip () attachable to automotive headlamp () for inhibiting second electrical connector () of wiring harness () from unintentionally separating from mating first connector () on the PCB () of the lamp. Clip () has central first beam () to contact lamp (), lamp-retaining support base () depending from one end of first beam () to engage lamp (), and second connector-blocking region () extending from an opposite end of first beam () that, upon assembly proximate second connector (), inhibits separation of the connectors (). Clip () is stamped from sheet metal. Support base () has engaging arms () joined by bight () either to be clipped over one fin () of heat sink () or to be squeezed between two neighboring fins (). Engaging arms () have protruding barbs () to resist separation of support base () from heat sink ().

Clip for wire harness

Retainer clip () attachable to motor vehicle headlamp () for inhibiting second electrical connector () of wiring harness () from unintentionally separating from mating first connector () on the PCB () of the lamp. Retainer clip comprises a deformable retaining arm () configured to inhibit separation of the first connector () and a second connector () upon assembly thereof with the first connector () and the second connector (); a second connector receptacle () defined by retainer clip body (), the second connector receptacle () configured to receive the second connector () therein; and a support base () configured to cooperate with the motor vehicle lamp () to align the second connector () with the first connector () in a connection plane () to assemble the second connector () and the first connector ().

A retainer () includes two retainer portions () surrounding lens (). Lens () has a bearing surface () and an abutment surface (), preferably two of each. In an intermediate stage of assembly, retainer portions when placed in confronting relation to each other around the lens are undersized in a lateral direction relative a principal dimension of lens (). A projection () from a retainer portion () bears against lens bearing surface (), and an abutment-receiving structure (), such as an aperture, bears against lens abutment (). When the retainer portions () are squeezed together and permanently connected, such as by weldment (), projection () is urged more firmly against lens bearing surface () and lens abutment surface () is urged against lens aperture (). Retainer portions () are symmetric, and formed of sheet steel.

Method of retrofitting a runway sign with a single LED lamp

An LED lamp assembly. The assembly includes a heat sink having an upper outermost peripheral portion deformed continuously around an entire perimeter of the heat sink radially inward towards a peripheral rib in a housing cover, whereby the peripheral rib is compressed towards an inner rib of the heat sink thereby locking the housing cover to the heat sink.
