Ear implant

Embodiments of the present disclosure relate generally to an orbital floor implant (). One embodiment provides an implant with a first surface that is a fully porous, bone-side layer () and a second surface that is a non-porous, orbital content-side layer (). The implant material itself may be polymeric material throughout, without the need for an embedded mesh or other support matrix. The implant is provided in a pre-shaped configuration and is of a material that allows it to be bent for shaping purposes. An extending tab () with eyelet portion/opening () can enhance securement options to a patient's bone.

Orbital floor implant

An implant that has a central body or core that functions as a spine, with extending articulating segments that extend from the spine. The articulating segments define a space between each section to allow the implant to be compressed and bent, such that the space between each section can be compressed or expanded. A specific use for the implant is as a sinus implant. Specific embodiments of the implant are useful in correcting missing tissue in the inferior turbinate. Specific embodiments are sized and shaped to treat empty nose syndrome (ENS). Embodiments also relate to an implant that has a port for allowing various fluids or solutions to be flushed into the implant and released through the implant surface.

Embodiments of the invention described herein thus provide implants and methods for manufacturing an implant having an outer layer that is porous. The porous outer layer can help encourage tissue ingrowth into the implant. The porous outer layer may be positioned around a core structure this is solid or that has a hollow interior. The core structure may be spherical or any other appropriate shape for a medical implant.

Embodiments of the present disclosure relate generally to a Sizer, Introducer, and Cutting Template Device. Embodiments find particular use as a sizer, introducer, and cutting template device for an orbital floor implant surgery. The disclosed device allows a surgeon or other practitioner to use a single component for sizing, introducing, and cutting a template for an orbital floor implant.

Embodiments of the invention described herein thus provide implants and methods for manufacturing an implant having an outer cortical layer that is porous. Embodiments of the invention described herein thus provide systems and methods for providing improved surgical implants. Embodiments of the implants may include a thin porous sheet formed on a mandrel. The porous sheet that is formed has an interconnected pore structure that may be compressed by a heat compression mold without losing porosity. Additional membrane materials or other layer materials may be applied to one of the face surfaces of the porous sheet or to one of the edges of the porous sheet. For example, a solid membrane surface may be compressed, bonded, welded, or secured a surface face or an edge of the porous sheet. The solid membrane may be compressed or laminated to the upper surface, lower surface, or both. The solid membrane may be welded to at least one edge of the porous sheet (by, for example, being butt welded, thermally bonded, or heat compressed to the at least one edge).

Certain embodiments of the channel implants are designed for craniofacial surgery, reconstruction, and/or augmentation. More specifically, some embodiments find particular use in orbital reconstructive surgery, such as repair of the orbital floor or supraorbital ridge (brow ridge). Embodiments also relate to methods for using and for manufacturing the channel implants disclosed.
