Systems, methods, and computer-readable media are disclosed for an enhanced valet mode for vehicles. An example method may include receiving a request to enter a valet mode of the vehicle. The example method may also include enabling the valet mode of the vehicle. The example method may also include disabling, based on the valet mode of the vehicle being enabled, a secure idle mode of the vehicle, wherein the secure idle mode of the vehicle includes locking a gear shifter of the vehicle in a park position when an occupant of the vehicle is outside of a cabin of the vehicle.

Systems and methods for enhanced vehicle valet mode

Systems, methods, and computer-readable media are disclosed for an enhanced valet mode for vehicles. An example method may include receiving a request for a temporary valet passcode. The example method may also include generating a temporary valet passcode. The example method may also include displaying a request for entry of the temporary valet passcode. The example method may also include determining that an input has been received. The example method may also include determining that a mobile device is located within the vehicle or within a threshold distance from the vehicle. The example method may also include preventing the vehicle from starting based on authorization of the mobile device for a period of time subsequent to the input being received.

Upon deactivating a vehicle, first operating data are collected, the first operating data including a measure of operation of a vehicle component other than a battery of the vehicle. Upon determining that a charge level of the battery of the vehicle is below a charge threshold, second operating data are collected from the vehicle component. Upon determining that the vehicle is unmoved from a location at which the vehicle was deactivated by determining that second operating data are within a threshold of the first operating data, a propulsion system is actuated to charge the battery.

A foldable card includes first and second sections, each defining a base and a layer of a blade of a key extending therefrom; and a hinge interface connecting the bases of the first and second sections, wherein the first section is configured to fold over the second section at the hinge interface so that a top surface of the first section is against a bottom surface of the second section and each of the layers of the blades align to form the blade of the key, and the first and second sections are configured to fold at the hinge interface into a storage position to form a collective flat surface.

A near field communication (NFC) reader module is provided for mounting over a metal panel of a vehicle. A housing of the module is configured to mount adjacent the metal panel. The housing contains a planar array of non-magnetic RF filter elements in the housing proximate to the metal panel. The housing contains a planar antenna coil configured to couple with an external NFC device carried by a user, wherein the array of RF filter elements is disposed between the planar antenna coil and the metal panel to magnetically decouple the planar antenna coil from the metal panel. The housing further contains receiver circuitry configured to decode NFC signals from the external NFC device.

Method and apparatus are disclosed for activation of valet mode for vehicles. An example vehicle system includes a remote near-field communication (NFC) device and a vehicle. The vehicle includes an engine, a cabin, and an interior NFC reader located in the cabin. The vehicle also includes a controller configured to enter a valet mode and authenticate the remote NFC device for the valet mode when the engine is active and the interior NFC reader communicates with the remote NFC device.

Exemplary embodiments described in this disclosure are generally directed to systems and methods for securely creating passwords for performing various keyless operations upon a vehicle. In an exemplary method, a computer receives a request for creating a password for a phone-as-a-key (PaaK) device. The computer determines that the PaaK device is present inside the vehicle and that the vehicle engine has been placed in an accessory state or a run state by an authorized PaaK device located in the vehicle. The computer further determines that a passive entry passive start (PEPS) key fob is present inside the vehicle. A prompt is provided for entry of a password. The computer checks to determine if an entered password has been already assigned to another PaaK device. If unassigned, the computer links the password to the PaaK device and authorizes the entered password as a valid keyless starting password for the vehicle.

A keycard may include electronics to allow access to vehicle functions. A keycard system for a vehicle includes a plurality of sections of a stacking key, and a keycard, including a key holder defining a plurality of sleeves, each sleeve having an opening for receiving a respective one of the plurality of sections, wherein the key holder further includes electronics configured to wirelessly provide access to the vehicle. A foldable keycard includes hinged sections, each defining a base and a layer of a blade of a key extending therefrom; and an electronic vehicle access component arranged at the base of one of the sections opposite the blades, and configured to fold away from the blades to allow the keycard to be inserted into a lock.

A vehicle communicates with a remote key fob while ensuring an RF environment is sufficient to maintain adequate power from an RF-harvesting power supply that allows the fob to operate without a battery. The vehicle has a receiver adapted to detect a backscatter communication signal from the fob. A harvesting emulator in the vehicle is responsive to ambient RF around the vehicle to duplicate a concurrent response of the fob power supply. A vehicle-powered RF transmitter is activated to broadcast energizing RF radiation around the vehicle when the duplicated response is below a threshold.

An example vehicle includes a first module for first protocol communication, a second module for second protocol communication, and a controller. The controller is to determine a first distance to a mobile device utilizing a signal strength of the first protocol communication and determine, upon receiving an entry request, a second distance to the mobile device utilizing a time-of-flight of the second protocol communication. The controller also is to prevent entry when the second distance does not match the first distance.

A vehicle includes a keypad mounted to an exterior of the vehicle, the keypad having a plurality of buttons, each button representing both a first value and a second value. The vehicle further includes a body controller, programmed to receive an input sequence entered via the keypad, validate whether the input sequence matches a predefined keycode, assuming the input sequence correctly entered the first value or the second value according to indications of which values of the keycode are the first value and which are the second value, and confirm pairing a mobile device to the vehicle responsive to the input sequence matching the keycode.

Out-of-band key sharing using near-field communication

Exemplary embodiments described in this disclosure are generally directed to systems and methods for ensuring password security when starting a vehicle having a keyless engine starting system. In an exemplary method, a computer detects a depression of an engine start push button when no phone-as-a-key (PaaK) device or passive-entry-passive-start (PEPS) key fob is present in the vehicle. The computer responds by executing a verification procedure prior to password validation. The verification procedure can include operations such as determining that no PaaK device or PEPS key fob is present either inside the vehicle or within a defined geofence outside the vehicle. If the verification procedure is successful, the computer displays a prompt upon a display screen for entering of a password. The computer then uses various security measures when verifying the validity of an entered password, followed by displaying of a message indicating acceptance or rejection of the password.
