A system for traversing an arterial occlusion in an artery includes a housing sized to fit in a palm of a user, an elongate drive tube configured to be rotated by the housing, the drive tube including an axially extending passage, a cylindrical member, configured to be rotationally coupled to the drive tube, such that a distal tip of the cylindrical member may be delivered to a location adjacent the arterial occlusion when the cylindrical member is coupled to the drive tube, and wherein grasping and activating the housing such that the drive tube is rotated, thereby causes the distal tip of the cylindrical member to be rotated, the rotation of the distal tip including at least a component of linear oscillation.

System and method for traversing an arterial occlusion

One preferred embodiment includes a guidewire manipulation device for manipulating a guidewire during a procedure. Preferably, the guidewire manipulation device includes a powered motor that drives a tandem roller assembly. The guidewire is passed through a hole positioned lengthwise through the device where the roller assembly engages the guidewire's outer surface. The interface of the manipulation device includes a power button that directs the internal roller assembly to roll the guidewire in a desired rotational direction. Additional interface controls are also preferable to provide a different roll patterns, depending upon surgeon preference and guidewire placement efficiency.

A minimally invasive fat cell removal system and method is provided using a numbing component, a laser component, and a NIL component. A cannula and fiber of the laser component are insertable into a body of a patient at a biopsy punch to liquefy a fat cell via a tumescent fluid and/or a laser. A NIL cannula of the NIL component is insertable into the body to remove the fat cell via suction and/or nutation. An anesthetic device of the numbing component may reduce sensation of the body where the cannula is insertable. The fat cell may be harvested and implanted at another location of the body.

A guidewire manipulation device includes a housing sized to be supported by a hand of a user, the housing having a distal end and a proximal end; a rotation member rotationally disposed within the housing; a locking assembly coupled to the rotation member, the locking assembly configured to selectively transfer rotational movement of the rotation member to rotational movement of a guidewire; a handle coupled to the housing and configured to be operable by the hand of the user; and a drive system coupled to the handle, the drive system configured to apply alternating clockwise motion and counter-clockwise motion to the guidewire by causing the rotation member to rotate.

A method and apparatus for manipulating a surgical guidewire. The apparatus comprises a chuck for selectively coupling motive force to a surgical guidewire and an actuator, coupled to the chuck, for imparting an axial motive force to the chuck. Embodiments of the invention further comprise a method of using the apparatus.

A tool for neurological and diagnostic testing comprises the combination of a stethoscope with a reflex hammer including a light. When mounted on the stethoscope head the reflex hammer extends beyond the head, without interfering with the normal use of the stethoscope. A handle, which may or may not be joined to the reflex hammer, is positioned on the flexible stethoscope tubing and provides a gripping surface for using the tool for neurological testing. One embodiment includes a light within the reflex hammer, so that a light is available for testing responses to light at the same time as checking other responses. The reflex hammer and light combination is adaptable for use with binaural and electronic stethoscopes, thus providing a convenient set of instruments within a single device. A detent on the handle provides an ergonomic grip, or a place for inclusion of indicia.

A handle, which may or may not be joined to the reflex hammer, is positioned on the flexible stethoscope tubing and provides a gripping surface for using the tool for neurological testing. One embodiment has an opening between the reflex hammer body and the handle enabling the user to grasp and rotate the stethoscope head. The reflex hammer, which can be made from one or more members, is adaptable for use with binaural and electronic stethoscopes. A detent on the handle provides an ergonomic grip, or a place for inclusion of indicia.
