Some embodiments provide a method for separating the motion detection zone(s) of an A/V recording and communication device from the motion alert zone(s) of the A/V recording and communication device. For example, an A/V recording and communication device may be configured to generate motion alerts, and to record audio and video footage, when an event is detected within a selected motion alert zone (e.g., within a defined radius around the A/V recording and communication device). However, the A/V recording and communication device may not generate a motion alert for an event detected outside of the selected motion alert zone, even though the device may still record audio and video footage for the detected event (e.g., when the event is within a selected motion detection zone).

Configurable motion detection and alerts for audio/video recording and communication devices

Temporarily suppressing and/or disabling notifications to a client device of events detected by a security device monitoring an environment. The notifications may be disabled and/or suppressed based upon a request from a user of the client device, or when the client device is nearby the security device. The user may request that notifications are suppressed for a definable suppression duration, wherein a timer is started to run for the suppression duration, and notifications are suppressed while the timer is running. When the client device is nearby the security device, suppression of the notifications for other users may be defined by a user-configurable table. A notification from a security device may include a suppress button to suppress notifications from that security device for a suppression period.

Temporary suppression of security event notifications

Video footage captured by A/V recording and communication devices may be readily uploaded to the cloud and shared with a requesting party, such as a law enforcement agency. When a request is received from a requesting party for video footage, videos meeting the criteria specified by the requesting party may be determined. Consent requests may then be sent to users associated with each of the A/V recording and communication devices that recorded the videos meeting the criteria specified by the requesting party. When user consents to share the videos, the videos may be provided to the requesting party.

Sharing video footage from audio/video recording and communication devices

Sharing video footage recorded by audio/video (A/V) recording and communication devices, such as video doorbells and security cameras. When an A/V recording and communication device records video footage of suspicious activity, or even criminal activity, a user viewing the footage may alert his or her neighbors by sharing the video. In various embodiments, the user may share the video with anyone of the user's choosing, including neighbors, friends, and family.

This application is directed to a hub device that may operate as a substitute for a backend device. For instance, an audio/video recording and communication device (A/V device) may communicate with the backend device using a first communication link. The first communication link may include a network-connected device, such as a router. Based on the A/V device determining that the first communication link is disrupted, the A/V device may configure settings in order to communicate with the hub device using a second communication link. The hub device may then receive data from the A/V device using the second communication link. If the hub device is able to still communicate with the backend device, the hub device may send the data to the backend device. However, if the hub device is unable to communicate with the backend device, then the hub device may store the data and/or transmit the data to a client device.

Using a local hub device as a substitute for an unavailable backend device

A camera system for vehicles captures panoramic video, has a unique identifier, and has an image processor that compresses the video and detects events. It transmits compressed video with one or more of a timestamp, a unique identifier, a location, and event flags through a network (e.g., cellular) to a server. A GPS device (or the like) may be adapted to determine location. Particular embodiments process the video to detect events, and, upon detecting these events, transmit video at a high data rate while using a low data rate at other times.
