A system includes a medical monitor having a sensor input responsive to a sensor signal representative of a physiological parameter; a processor that may calculate the physiological parameter from the sensor signal; an output port in communication with the processor to output medical data comprising the calculated physiological parameter in a first communication protocol; a removable interface having an input port receptive of the medical data in the first communication protocol; a memory storing code that may translate the medical data into a second communication protocol; and a first output port that may transmit the medical data in the second communication protocol to an external system that recognizes the second communication protocol and not the first communication protocol.

Medical device connectivity interface system and method

An inflatable balloon cuff may be adapted to seal a patient's trachea when associated with an endotracheal tube. These cuffs may include indicia that facilitate attachment of the cuff relative to the tube to reduce manufacturing variability for such characteristics as rotational and length alignment. Such indicia may include protrusions that are formed in the wall of the cuff collars or may include visual indicators, e.g., colorimetric or shape-wise indicators. Cuffs with improved attachment relative to the tube may have increased sealing performance.

Medical device and technique for using the same

An improved shower arm having an elbow portion adapted to fluidly communicate with a shower head and an arm portion adapted to fluidly communicate with a water supply. The arm portion is pivotably coupled with the elbow portion about a long axis of the elbow portion, with the long axis of the elbow portion and a long axis of the arm portion forming an angle. Also, the shower arm includes a locking mechanism having one or more sets of splines to securely lock the relative position of the arm and elbow portions. The splines may be coupled and decoupled by a variety of mechanisms, including: hydraulic pressure generated by a restrictor plate; a spring forcing the sets of splines together; and a pair of magnets.

A showerhead with multiple modes of operation may include a first turbine and a second turbine, each disposed within a unique flow channel. The first and second turbines may interrupt water flow through their respective flow channels, thereby providing at least one pulsating water spray emanating from the showerhead. The showerhead may include a third flow channel having no turbine disposed therein, such that water flowing through the third flow channel is not interrupted and thus emitted from the showerhead as a drenching spray.

An improved shower arm. The shower arm includes an elbow portion adapted to fluidly communicate with a shower head and an arm portion adapted to fluidly communicate with a water supply. The arm portion is pivotably coupled with the elbow portion about a long axis of the elbow portion, with the long axis of the elbow portion and a long axis of the arm portion forming an angle. The arm portion and the elbow portion form a continuous channel configured to fluidly connect the water supply with a shower head. A mechanism allowing a user to selectively pivot and lock the position of the arm portion relative to the elbow portion is provided. The locking mechanism may include one or more sets of splines or similar features, such that engagement of the sets of splines securely locks the relative position of the arm and elbow portions. The splines may be coupled and decoupled by a variety of mechanisms, including: hydraulic pressure generated by a restrictor plate; a spring forcing the sets of splines together; and a pair of magnets. Alternative embodiments may omit the splines and instead employ a tab-and-gear, tab-and-ratchet, or nut-and-collet structure to selectively prohibit rotational motion between the arm and elbow portions.
