An adjusting instrument for electrically adjusting the interior mirror of a motor vehicle about two mutually perpendicular axes. The device comprises a vehicle-connectable suspension device and a mirror mounting plate connected thereto. The plate is adjustable about two mutually perpendicular axes and supports a rearview mirror. The suspension device comprises a housing accommodating two drive units whose output shafts are perpendicular to one another and geared to drive the mirror mounting plate. The drive units are arranged to exert a torque on the point of suspension of the suspension device, that is equal but opposite to the torque exerted on the point of suspension by the mirror mounting plate and mirror.

An adjusting device with an overload slip system and a slip-independent position indicator includes a driving system and an adjusting member movable by the driving system between two end stops. The driving system includes an electric motor housed in a housing and a planetary transmission connected to the motor shaft, the power output shaft of the transmission being in engagement with the adjusting member. A stationary, internally toothed ring of the planetary transmission is confined between facing peripheral edges of the divided housing and is capable of slipping relatively to the edges of the housing under overload conditions. A support plate with a circular electrical resistor is fixedly connected to the housing on the side of the power output shaft. A runner contact connected to the power output shaft is movable over the resistor. The support plate with the electrical resistor and runner contact form a position indicator operating as a potentiometer, which continues to indicate the exact position of the adjusting member when slip occurs.

Apparatus for adjusting a motor-car mirror about two mutually perpendicular axes. The apparatus has a housing having therein a reversible motor, an electromagnetically operable clutch, and two planetary transmission assemblies each having an output shaft connected to a mirror adjusting unit. The units act upon a tilting adjusting ring which in any position is in sealing contact with a raised edge of the bottom member of the housing. A safety housing for mounting the apparatus has a protective cap having two substantially parallel partitions spaced apart so as to be capable of receiving the top part of a mounting column between them. A clamping device forces the partitions against the surface of the column. The cap will thus withstand light impact forces, but turn relative to the column when struck by a bicycle or other vehicle in traffic.

Motor-car mirror adjustable about two perpendicular axes

An apparatus for adjusting a mirror or a similar flat planar element about two mutually perpendicular axes. The apparatus has a housing enclosing a reversible motor, an electromagnetically operated clutch and two planetary transmission assemblies, one for each direction of movement. The clutch selectively couples the motor to one or the other of the two pinion sun wheels of the planetary transmission systems. The drive shaft of each planetary transmission assembly is provided with crank arm, which engages a corresponding mirror adjustment unit. A mirror mounting plate is provided with recesses into which correspondingly shaped parts of the mirror adjustment units are introduced by snap fitting.

Adjustable motor car mirror with compact electrically driven adjusting

An apparatus for adjusting a mirror or a similar flat planar element around two mutually perpendicular axis. The apparatus has a mounting plate for mounting the mirror thereon, the mounting plate being connected to a support by means of a universal joint. On the support is mounted a single reversible electric motor and a transmission system having two planetary gear systems, each having a sun pinion wheel and planet wheels meshing with the sun wheel, the sun wheels of the planetary gear systems being disposed coaxially with the motor shaft. An electromagnetically controlled coupling selectively couples the motor to one or the other of the two pinion sun wheels. The transmission system is connected to the mounting plate of the mirror to be adjusted by means of a single string, the string engaging the mounting plate at mutually opposed points located thereon in pairs and being laid in a loop around the pulleys of said two planetary gear systems under spring tension, and being guided by guiding means to the points on the mounting plate.
