A communication protocol provides diversity in UL and DL between a headset and a host device that transmits right and left audio data on separate channels. Each ear piece establishes an independent channel to the host device, and there is another channel between them. Each ear piece monitors not only its own channel to the host, but also the other ear piece's channel to the host. One ear piece may acknowledge the host device for a correctly received packet, which the other ear piece missed, on the other ear piece's channel to the host device, avoiding retransmissions. The eavesdropped data is provided to the other ear piece on the shared channel, providing for path diversity in DL. The ear pieces may exchange picked-up voice content to send to the host device, providing for path diversity in UL.

Wireless stereo headset with bidirectional diversity

A communication protocol provides improved bidirectional communication performance between a wireless stereo headset () and a host device (). The communication protocol provides communication paths between the host device () and each ear piece () of the wireless stereo headset (), as well as a communication path () between the two ear pieces (). In addition to receiving audio information from the host device (), each ear piece () may request audio information from the other ear piece (), thus obtaining path diversity in the downlink. One ear piece () may acknowledge the host device () for a correctly received packet, which the other ear piece () missed, avoiding retransmissions. The ear pieces () may exchange picked-up voice content to send to the host device (), providing for path diversity in the uplink.

Using special control messages on connection between the ear pieces (), the ear pieces () inform each other which audio information has been received successfully from the host device (). Using a common clock broadcast by the host device (), the ear pieces () may indicate which audio information was missed and should be forwarded on the communication path (P2,) between the two ear pieces ().

Wireless stereo headset with diversity

A dual-microphone arrangement () provides improve voice performance in a wireless headset (). A vibration sensor () is used for voice pickup and will add low-frequency voice audio content in windy conditions. An equalizer () is used to restore low-frequency voice audio content in wind-free conditions. Depending on the measured wind power, the output will derive more signal from the equalizer () or more signal from the vibration sensor ().

An apparatus for reading out information from an information carrier includes a reading unit for reading out user information and access information from the information carrier. The user information are stored in a first region of the information carrier and the access information are stored in a second region of the information carrier. The apparatus further includes an access controller for providing access to the user information in dependence on the access information. The access information are stored in a first portion of the second region, and the dummy information are stored in a second portion of the second region according to a similar format as used for storing the access information.

A record carrier has a servo track indicating an information track intended for recording information blocks. The servo track has a variation of a physical parameter, referred to as wobble. The wobble is modulated for encoding record carrier information, such as addresses. The servo track is subdivided in modulated parts in which the frequency and/or phase of the variation deviates from the wobble frequency, and non-modulated parts. The slope of the wobble is substantially continuous at transitions between the modulated and non-modulated parts by using wobbles starting at the maxima or minima of the wobble in a first part of the modulated parts.

An information carrier for holding user information, the information carrier comprising access information in the form of access information bits for accessing the user information, the access information bits being stored on the information carrier in a variation of a parameter, which variation is detectable by integration detection. The access information bits are scrambled according to a pre-determined scrambling method. By scrambling the access information bits according to a pre-determined scrambling method, detection of the access information is not possible as long as the scrambling method is not known. Using the integration detection technique, the only way to obtain the access information is by knowing how the signal obtained after reading-out the area comprising the access information bits must be processed. In this way illegal retrieval of the user information is further prevented.

A controller for controlling the power of a laser that is used in determining the motion of an object includes a power source that is arranged to supply power pulses to the laser in response to a controller signal. The controller controls the generation of pulses during periods in which a reliable result can be obtained, by detecting the laser radiation that has interacted with pulses reflected from the object, in order to conserve power consumption. Further the power pulses include a heating pulse portion, which serves to stabilize the temperature of the laser and calibrate the laser so that a known lasing wavelength is generated.
