The present invention relates to specific methods of producing cleated rubber-backed floor mats (such as dust control or rubber mats) through the utilization of the combination of a perforated coated woven fabric article and a cushioned platen liner between the article and the metal platen of an in-line dust control mat manufacturing machine. Such a procedure permits a more efficient manner of producing cleated anti-creep dust control mats than previously followed. In particular, the fabric article is in the form of a conveyor belt and is preferably constructed from Teflon&reg;-coated woven fiberglass which will not adhere to the tacky rubber component of the target mat and can withstand the extremely high vulcanization temperatures and pressures required during the production of a dust control mat. The cushioned platen liner, which is preferably comprised of or coated with silicon, is utilized as a separator between the metal platen of the manufacturing machine, as well as cushion for the molten rubber as it is pressed through the conveyor belt perforations during vulcanization. Such a cushioned liner material substantially eliminates any problems due to the force of the metal platen against the molten rubber as it passes through the article perforations. Further, a method for utilizing the conveyor belt to produce foam rubber cleated anti-creep mats is disclosed. The cleats of these mats have a thicker skin than the rest of the mat, thereby imparting enough strength and structural integrity so that the foam rubber mats may withstand the daily rigors of use, combined with periodic launderings. The produced mat as well as the woven fabric article/cushioned platen liner combination are also encompassed within this invention.

A washable, water and dust binding service mat having a nap and a rubber or plastics backing layer, whereby the nap and a woven ground fabric for the tufting is fastened in the backing layer material, the ground fabric for the tufting comprising a layer of woven primary fabric of synthetic split fibers being calendered together by a heat setting operation with a layer of a nonwoven fiber fleece which prior to this heat setting operation has been needled together with the woven primary fabric by a needle technique. The nonwoven fiber fleece has an area weight of 80-150 grams/m.sup.2, consists of two or more kinds of synthetic fibers, with one having a softening temperature lower than the other synthetic fiber.

In a method for keeping an easily removable mat or similar small carpet (5) in place in a carpeted or carpet tile covered area (1) of a floor, the mat (5) is provided with a pattern of engageable means, such as projections (6), distributed all over its lower side. One or more parts (2) of the floor area (1) to be covered by the mat (5) is kept or made free from carpeting or carpet tile covering, and said one or more uncovered parts (2) of the floor area (1) is provided with an anchoring plate material (7), the upper surface of which is performed with engageable to engage the lower side of the mat (5) for preventing a horizontal displacement of the mat. Method for press vulcanizing, not only of dry, wholly or partly vulcanizable articles (1), such as auto rubber mats, piled rubber mats, etc., of a humidity of 0-3 weight percent but also of such articles (1) of a humidity of 3-5 weight percent or more, in the press zone of a vulcanizing press (P) having a shiftable part for closing and opening of the press (P) capable of applying a uniform surface pressure against any article (1) fed into the press. In that at least from the beginning of the vulcanizing operation to the end of it, a multitude of flow routes is established between the press shiftable part and each article (1) for vapors and gases released from each article (1), and a multitude of flow routes out from the press zone from where said vapors and gases may thus escape at least along part of the border of said press zone border, a method is brought about in which no vulcanizing heat is lost for heating of confined vapors and gases at high pressures.

In a sealing system for a diaphragm type vulcanizing press, the diaphragm (19), having a roundgoing fixing flange, applies the necessary compression moulding pressure during the vulcanizing press operation, and along its edge the diaphragm is attached to a fixing flange (10) on one of the press parts through a number of fixing devices mounted round along the diaphragm (19) edge, fixing a roundgoing frame (12) against the diaphragm (19) for the sealing of same against the press fixing flange (10). In that between frame (12) and the press fixing flange (10) along the diaphragm (19) flange edge and within the various fixing devices, a compression unit (14, 16) running round along these of a constant cross section shape to form a local and narrow compression zone (18) running round along the number of fixing units in the diaphragm flange material, good sealing is achieved with even large diaphragm areas between the fixing flange and the diaphragm at low assembly power viewed in relation to the maximum print medium pressure prevailing behind the diaphragm (19).

Thus, vapours and gases from the hot articles are located at particular points in the system and may be removed selectively from there so as to prevent pollution of the manufacturing room air, thus producing energy savings since the manufacturing room air replacement may be reduced.

A floor covering such as a nap mat or carpet of washable type comprises a rubber or plastic back, wherein the nap or tufts is/are fastened in the back material. The floor covering has means for increasing the drain of liquid from the nap when the floor covering is subjected to the influence of a force, such as a pressing force, a centrifugal force, and/or a pressure difference between the front and rear side of the floor covering. This means may be a normally closed perforation of the back material and/or an intermediate tissue via which the nap is secured to the back material. Preferably the intermediate tissue is a non-woven material, mainly consisting of synthetic fibres having a weight of 100-300, preferably 250 g per m.sup.2, a fibre thickness of 5-30, preferably 8 decitex, and a tissue thickness of 1-5, preferably 2 mm. Thereby a nap mat or carpet is achieved having a short drying time and/or provides a small drying energy consumption after washing.
