Core/wrap yarn is produced by continuously forming air jet-spun yarn and uninterruptedly continuously passing it to a friction spinner for purposes of wrapping the air jet-spun yarn with fibrous material in the friction spinner, so as to form core/wrap yarn.

Production of core/wrap yarns by airjet and friction spinning in tandem

A method is provided for manufacturing a new core wrap yarn which is strip resistant to the degree that it is able to be passed through a knitting needle at an entrance-exit angle of about 10.degree., at a tension of 100 grams and a speed of 100 meters per minute, without any apparent stripping or fuzz generation, wherein the method allows for convenient piecing-up operations.

Method for forming core/wrap yarn

A device for forming core/wrap yarn is provided in which a core strand and one or more wrap strands are passed from the nip of a pair of rollers to a stationary support surface which is outwardly, downwardly curved and which includes an open channel therein; wherein the core strand is passed through the channel from the nip and the wrap rovings are passed from the nip to converge upon and wrap around the core strand in the channel to form wrapped yarn; wherein the support surface may be moved from its operative position to a second position to allow a second mode of operation absent the support surface and wherein the support surface is tapered from the outer edges toward the channel.

Device for forming core/wrap yarn

A core wrap system is provided in which a core strand and wrap strands spaced from said core strand on each side of said core strand are passed from the nip of a pair of rollers to a stationary support surface that is outwardly, downwardly curved, and which includes an open channel therein which is outwardly, downwardly curved along the surface; wherein the core strand is passed through the channel from the nip; wherein the wrap rovings are passed from the nip to converge upon and wrap around the core strand in the channel to form wrapped yarn in the channel; and wherein wrapped yarn then is passed through a ring traveler to a wind-up spindle.

System for producing core/wrap yarn

A core/wrap yarn forming system comprising two or more channels extending outwardly from the nip of the front draft rolls of a ring-spinning system; wherein each channel's entrance is closely adjacent to the nip; wherein the entrances are spaced apart from one another; wherein the channels merge with one another at the exit from the device; wherein the first channel is essentially straight throughout its length, and is perpendicular to the nip; wherein each of the other channels is curved to guide the strand therein in a convex pathway with respect to the first channel, and converge inward to the end of the first channel. The core is supplied through the straight channel, while one or more wrapping strands pass through the curved channel or channels, and wrap around the core where all the channels merge. The wrapped yarn then is passed to an ordinary ring traveler and wind-up spindle of a ring-spinning assembly. In this manner, unwrapped roving is converted to core/wrap yarn in a single draft stage in a continuous process on a ring-spinning frame.

System for producing staple-wrapped core yarn

A core/wrap yarn is formed on a conventional ring-spinning yarn system by including a gripper nip immediately downstream from and closely adjacent to the front roller nip of the system; feeding a core strand and at least one wrap stand on each side of the core strand from the front roller nip to the gripper nip, wherein the wrap strands are spaced from the core strand at the front roller nip and converge with the core strand in the gripper nip to wrap around the core strand in the gripper nip so as to form wrapped yarn which then is passed through a ring traveler on to the wind-up system.
