A method of finishing a barrier fabric includes applying a non-aqueous solution of low surface tension solvent and fluorochemical repellent to a barrier fabric, subjecting the barrier fabric to conditions sufficient to remove the solvent from the barrier fabric, and applying an aqueous-based antistat to a surface of the barrier fabric. The low surface tension solvent substantially covers all fibers in the barrier fabric with the fluorochemical repellent. The antistat is prevented by the fluorochemical from migrating from the surface to which it is applied.

Methods of finishing medical barrier fabrics

A sterilizable, water vapor permeable, bacterial barrier foam-coated medical fabric suitable for use as a medical instrument wrap or CSR wrap which features a nonwoven textile-type substrate coated with a continuous network of an open cell microporous foam that forms a network of interconnected cells distributed among and covering nearly the entire surface of the substrate. This foam extends into the substrate itself and presents a network of interconnected cells that form a tortuous path from the face of the fabric to the opposite side of the fabric to define a bacterial barrier to inhibit or stop the passage of bacteria, yet permits steam and water vapor to pass into and out of the fabric.

Foam coated CSR/surgical instrument wrap fabric

Non-woven bioactive, water and alcohol-repellent medical fabrics are described. The fabric is provided with a bioactive finish which is substantive on the fabric and is able to destroy migrating and cross-contaminating bacteria, algae and fungi. The bioactive material is 3-(trimethoxysilyl)-propyloctadecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride and is present to the extent of about 0.15 to about 1.05% on the basis of the fabric weight. A fluoropolymer provides the necessary alcohol and saline repellency. The described fabrics have numerous medical uses such as surgeon's gowns, medical drapes, isolation gowns and instrument wraps.

Bioactive water and alcohol-repellant medical fabric

An absorbent, highly wettable, bioactive fabric useful as a surgical drape, dressing or the like comprised of a non-cellulosic substrate having a non-leachable silicone quaternary bioactive compound together with a hydrophilic organosilicone terpolymer incorporated thereon is described. The fabric is used to isolate a surgical incision site and provides an absorbent antimicrobial field to destroy migrating and cross-contaminating bacteria, fungi and algae. Procedures for producing the fabric are also disclosed.

Process for making absorbent bioactive wettable medical fabric

This invention relates to an absorbent fabric suitable for use as a surgical drape, dressing or the like which is used to isolate a surgical incision site and at the same time provides an absorbent antimicrobial field which becomes substantive on the fabric and services to destroy migrating and cross-contaminating bacteria, fungi and algae. Procedures for producing this fabric are also disclosed. Such fabric is highly wettable, bioactive and serves to lower the amount of microbial contamination while lowering the risk of postoperative infection.

Absorbent microbiocidal fabric and process for making same

Non-woven fabrics are rendered repellent to water, saline, body fluids and solvents according to the disclosed process that applied bioactive finish that becomes substantive on the fabric and serves to destroy migrating and cross-contaminating bacteria, algae and fungi. The finish serves to lower the amount of microbial contamination while providing a barrier to liquid penetration. Fabrics so treated are useful as surgeon's gowns, medical drapes, isolation gowns, instrument wraps and the like.

Process for applying a water and alcohol repellent microbiocidal finish

Dyed, absorbent bioactive wettable fabrics are prepared by mixing together a wettable hydrophilic organosilicone polymer, a tinctorial amount of a compatible direct dye and a bioactive silyl quanternary amine. The mixture is applied to a non-woven cellulose-containing substrate then heated to dye the coated substrate, fix the dye and couple the microbiocide and hydrophilic coupling agent to the substrate. Fabric so produced is useful as an absorbent surgical drape or dressing to isolate a surgical incision site while providing an absorbent antimicrobial field to destroy migrating and cross-contaminating bacteria, algae and fungi.

Process for dyeing absorbent microbiocidal fabric and product so produced

An absorbent, highly wettable, bioactive, dyed fabric useful as a surgical drape, dressing or the like is disclosed composed of a non-cellulosic substrate having incorporated on it a non-leachable bioactive silicone quaternary amine, a hydrophilic organosilicone terpolymer and a direct dye. The fabric is used to isolate a surgical incision site and provides an absorbent antimicrobial field to destroy migrating and cross-contaminating bacteria, fungi and algae. Procedures for producing the fabric are also disclosed.
