Prolific inventors in Japan include Kōnosuke Matsushita (1894 – 1989), who founded Panasonic, the largest Japanese consumer electronics company; Momofuku Ando (1910 – 2007), inventor of instant noodles (ramen noodles) and the of the brands Top Ramen and Cup Noodles; Sakichi Toyoda (1867 – 1930), who invented the Toyoda Automatic Loom; Shigeo Shingo (1909 – 1990), who was considered as the world’s leading expert on manufacturing practices and the Toyota Production System; Umetaro Suzuki (1874 – 1943), is famous for the discovery of Vitamin B1; Takamine Jōkichi (1854 – 1922), the first to isolated and purified adrenaline; and Kyota Sugimoto (1882 – 1972), who developed the first practical Japanese typewriter.
