Prolific inventors in Israel include Abraham Lempel (1936 – 2023), one of the fathers of the LZ family of lossless data compression algorithms; Adi Shamir (1952), inventor of differential cryptanalysis and has made numerous contributions to fields of cryptography and computer science (co-inventor of the Rivest–Shamir–Adleman (RSA) algorithm and of the Feige–Fiat–Shamir identification scheme); Ada E. Yonat (1939), she discovered the structure and function of ribosomes; Raphael Mechoulam (1930 – 2023), known as “the father of cannabis research; Uri Sivan (1955), co-developed nanowire – a conductive wire made of a string of tiny particles of silver, a thousand times thinner than a human hair; Stuart Licht – created super iron battery – a new class of a rechargeable electric battery based on a special kind of iron.
