Geert Van der Auwera

He received a Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ, USA, in 2007, and a Belgian M.S.E.E. degree from Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), Belgium, in 1997.

Until January 2011, Auwera was with Samsung Electronics, Irvine, CA. He was a Scientific Advisor with IWT-Flanders till December 2004.

Mr. Auwera is currently the Director of Qualcomm Technologies Inc., San Diego, CA, USA; where he actively contributed to the standardization efforts of JCT-VC’s High-Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) and JVET’s Versatile Video Coding (VVC).

His research interests are video coding, point cloud compression, XR, video traffic and quality characterization, and video streaming mechanisms and protocols.

In 1998, Auwera’s M.S.E.E. thesis on motion estimation in the wavelet domain received Barco and IBM prizes from the Fund for Scientific Research, Flanders.

Patent №: 11671595 (June 6, 2023) – Reconstruction of blocks of video data using block size restriction

Patent №: 11671600 (June 6, 2023) – Signaling intensity-dependent deblocking filtering for video coding.

Patent №: 11671592 (June 6, 2023) – Position-dependent intra-prediction combination for angular intra-prediction modes for video coding.

Robert Edgar Barton

He graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree in engineering physics and is a registered professional engineer.

Rob holds dual CCIEs, in Routing and Switching and Security, and was also the first CCDE in Canada. Rob joined Cisco from ArrowPoint Communications, where he worked as a data center specialist supporting many of the largest corporations in Canada.

In the time since ArrowPoint was acquired by Cisco, Rob has worked as a public sector systems engineer, primarily focused on wireless and security architectures.

Currently, Rob is working on SmartGrid network technologies, including smart meters and intelligent substation design.

Patent №: 11671331 (June 6, 2023) – Systems and methods for contextual network assurance based on change audits. A neural network processes this data to predict the impact on network health. By comparing predictions with ongoing health information, issues can be identified and addressed.

Henry Wallace Dornemann

Distinguished Member of Technical Staff at CommVault since Feb. 1999.

Patent №: 11669414 (June 6, 2023) – External dynamic virtual machine synchronization. User computing systems are replicated at an external resource system to create a backup. Data, applications, and configurations are copied onto a virtual machine. If a user computing system is inaccessible, a new one can be generated from the backup. The backup can be interacted with at the external resource system, facilitating a transition for the information management system.

Christiaan A Hartman

Mr. Hartman spent more than 20+ years in the wireless computer networking industry, 6 years of engineering, and 6 years of engineering management.

His primary areas of investigation include WiFi, Mobile, Standards Development, Access Points, Indoor & Outdoor Wireless (Mesh) Networks, WiMAX, and Engineering Management.

Patent №: 11671259 (June 6, 2023) – Neighbor awareness networking password authentication. The apparatus has a processor and memory. It detects a nearby client station using the NAN protocol during a discovery window for Wi-Fi communication. Afterward, a datapath is established through attribute exchange, including data path setup and encryption cipher.

Yunfei Zheng

He is Video Coding and Machine Learning Engineer at Apple.

His research interests include video/image compression, processing, and multimedia analysis.

Mr. Zheng was an Engineer of an interactive media group with Apple, Inc., between 2011 and 2018. He successfully delivered many algorithms for the FaceTime and media analysis features of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and tvOS.

He was a Video Standard Engineer at Qualcomm, Inc., between 2010 and 2011 and joined the HEVC standardization activities.

Yunfei received a Ph.D. degree in electrical and computer science from West Virginia University, Morgantown, WV, in 2018; and a B.S. and M.S. in mechanical engineering from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, in 1999 and 2002, respectively.

Patent №: 11671112 (June 6, 2023) – Methods and apparatus for unified significance map coding. The apparatus encodes transform coefficients using multiple transforms and generates context-sharing maps based on a unified rule. These maps provide shared context information for coefficients from different transforms.

Chin-Wei Lin

Patent №: 11670219 (June 6, 2023) – Device and method for improved LED driving.

The electronic device has a display and a controller. The controller provides a refresh rate to the display and generates a control signal to control the emission of a light-emitting diode in a display pixel. The control signal’s frequency depends on whether the refresh rate is below a predetermined threshold.
