James T Dalton

James Tilmon Dalton is an American pharmacist and drug discovery scientist who is also the Executive Vice President and provost of the University of Alabama.

Dalton started as a pharmacist at Kettering Medical Center before becoming an assistant professor at the University of Tennessee, where he led pioneering research on SARMs for muscle loss and developed the cancer/COVID-19 drug sabizabulin.

He rose to full professor and Division Chair at Ohio State, became a Fellow of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists, and later joined GTx as chief scientific officer.

James served as Dean of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Michigan and was elected to the National Academy of Medicine. In 2020, Dalton became Executive Vice President and provost at the University of Alabama.

This invention presents novel SARD compounds based on indole, indazole, benzimidazole, and related structures, along with pharmaceutical compositions for treating conditions such as prostate hyperproliferation, prostate cancer, androgenic alopecia, Kennedy’s disease, ALS, AAA, and uterine fibroids. The compounds act by reducing levels or inhibiting the activity of androgen receptors, including full-length receptors, splice variants, and pathogenic polyglutamine mutations.
