Welcome to November 26, 2024. This week, we aim to celebrate the centurion patentors who have reached noteworthy milestones in their fields.
Akihiko Nishio received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in electronic engineering from the Tokyo University of Science, Tokyo, Japan, in 2000 and 2002, respectively.
In 2002, he joined Panasonic Corporation, Nagaokakyo, Japan, where he had been involved in the development of GaAs-based semiconductor devices.
Since 2009, he has been involved in the development of GaN power switching transistors and RF-GaN PA transistors.
Patent №: 12156234 (November 26, 2024) – Configuration of control channels in a mobile communication system. The invention proposes a method to standardize control channel configuration in mobile networks by aligning control channel information sizes across formats to a uniform number of coded bits or modulation symbols, using modulation or coding techniques. This ensures consistency, particularly for scheduling-related control information.
Patent №: 12155597 (November 26, 2024) – Communication apparatus and retransmission control method. The wireless communication device determines ACK or NACK signals in the PHICH region, skipping PHICH monitoring in subframes with E-PDCCH monitoring. If a NACK is received and no UL grant is detected, it prompts retransmission. If a UL grant is detected, it allocates the signal accordingly and transmits it.

Patent №: 12156255 (November 26, 2024) – Random access preamble transmission using a timing-based partition of preamble space. A UE performs random access to a base station with large propagation delays by selecting a preamble and a time slot based on a configured mapping of time slots to preamble subsets. It transmits the preamble with timing advance for delay compensation. The base station uses the mapping to identify the transmission slot and responds with a Random Access Response addressed to the UE’s RA-RNTI.
Patent №: 12156239 (November 26, 2024) – Sidelink co-channel coexistence with inter-UE coordination. Systems and methods enable inter-UE coordination for sidelink (SL) resource management across overlapping resource pools on different radio access technologies (RATs). A first UE detects reserved resources in a second SL resource pool and shares this information via the first SL resource pool. A second UE uses this data to avoid overlapping reserved resources when selecting transmission resources for its SL communication.
Patent №: 12156238 (November 26, 2024) – Resource allocation for co-channel coexistence. Systems and methods enable UE to handle overlapping sidelink (SL) resource pools across multiple RATs by prioritizing non-overlapping resources, adjusting power control configurations based on SL pathloss relevance, selecting PSFCH locations from non-overlapping resources using a bitmap, and resolving PSFCH transmission/reception conflicts with data priority and pool sharing rules.
Patent №: 12156228 (November 26, 2024) – Systems, methods, and apparatus for resource determination in wireless communication. A method for a UE detects DCI format 2_0, which includes an indicator for LBT sub-band states and a COT duration indicator. If there’s insufficient time to prepare the DCI format, the available RB set indicator is set to an unknown state.
Patent №: 12156226 (November 26, 2024) – Physical uplink shared channel repetition with different configurations. This application describes devices, systems, and methods for transmitting physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) repetitions across different beams using varying configurations to enhance communication efficiency.
Patent №: 12156185 (November 26, 2024) – FR2 type 1 UL gap configuration in dynamic TDD system. Systems and methods enable UL gaps for UE calibration during TDD communication. The UE identifies repeated slot patterns, determines a UL gap periodicity, and performs calibration in semi-persistently configured UL slots based on common or dedicated configurations or SFI DCI. Dynamic DCI UL slots are excluded from UL gap usage.
Patent №: 12156114 (November 26, 2024) – Layer 2 UE to UE data forwarding. Systems and methods enable a relay UE to transport data between remote UEs within a wireless system at Layer 2 of the protocol stack. Data packets may include an adaptation header with routing information, decoded by an adaptation layer. Alternatively, logical channel identifiers (LCIDs) can be used for routing without an adaptation header. A per-bearer approach maps direct bearers in the relay’s hop-by-hop path.
Patent №: 12155595 (November 26, 2024) – Technologies for NR coverage enhancement. Methods enhance NR system coverage for coverage-limited UEs by configuring them with coverage enhancement parameters via RRC signaling, DCI, or RAR grants. These parameters enable the UE to use time diversity, frequency diversity, time repetitions, and frequency hopping to improve PDSCH and PDCCH reception. The base station dynamically adjusts these configurations to extend coverage as the UE moves.
Patent №: 12155439 (November 26, 2024) – Systems and methods for user equipment (UE) selection from among asymmetric uplink (UL) antenna panels. A wireless communication method involves a user device transmitting an antenna panel capability report and an initial panel index to a base station. The device selects an antenna panel for uplink (UL) transmission based on the initial index, uses its corresponding configuration, and transmits UL data. Alternatively, configuration information for each panel is received dynamically as panels are selected for transmission.

Patent №: 12156243 (November 26, 2024) – RLM and beam failure detection based on a mix of different reference signals.
A user equipment (UE) evaluates cell or beam quality using measurements from multiple sources in beam-formed downlink signals, including different types of reference signals and channel quality indicators. It checks if each measurement falls below a threshold to detect out-of-sync events and performs actions based on these detections.
