Welcome to May 6, 2025. This week, we aim to celebrate the centurion patentors who have reached noteworthy milestones in their fields.
System Engineer at Qualcomm.
Patent №: 12295043 – Random access procedure fallback.
UE starts connection using 2-step random access by sending a preamble and payload. If the base station receives only the preamble, it can trigger fallback to a 4-step procedure without requiring payload retransmission. Enables efficient recovery and connection setup.
Patent №: 12295035 – Cyclic prefix (CP) extension in channel occupancy time (COT) sharing for sidelink communication. First UE detects a prior sidelink transmission within a shared COT. It determines a cyclic prefix (CP) extension length to meet LBT gap time requirements. The second transmission is sent with the CP extension, allowing efficient COT sharing among UEs.
Patent №: 12295033 – Network configured sensing bandwidth and channel occupancy time (COT) sharing. Network signals a sensing bandwidth configuration to a contending node. The node performs medium sensing (e.g., LBT) based on the signaled bandwidth. Enables coordinated channel access and reduces interference in shared spectrum.
Patent №: 12295012 – Acknowledgement feedback in unlicensed new radio. UE communicates with a base station in unlicensed spectrum. Determines HARQ ACK codebook size based on configured HARQ processes, number or duration of downlink monitoring occasions, or a combination of both.
Patent №: 12295004 – Multiple downlink control information (DCI) message handling for multiple control resource set (CORESET) groups. UE handles DCI messages from multiple CORESET groups with separate or joint feedback. Supports both TB- and CBG-based transmissions, tracking DAIs per group or jointly. Uses dynamic or semi-static codebooks with optional skipping rules to reduce signaling overhead.
Patent №: 12294997 – Sidelink transmissions using receiver feedback. Receiver gets SCIs from multiple transmitters scheduling COT resources. It sends A/N feedback via mini-slot (PSFCH or SLFI with SCI) before LBT and PSSCH. Feedback influences whether and how the transmitter proceeds with channel access and data transmission.
Patent №: 12294979 – Sidelink feedback for multiple transmit receive points.
Receiving UE sends feedback for sidelink messages to both base station and transmitting UE via PUCCH or PSFCH. Resources may be configured by the base station or allocated by the transmitting UE. Supports dual connectivity and simultaneous feedback on both channels.
Patent №: 12294977 – Remaining minimum system information (RMSI) transmission for sidelink. A transmitting device sends an RMSI message with its resource pool configuration to receiving devices using a shared minimum resource block set. Sidelink communication then proceeds based on the shared configuration.
Patent №: 12294534 – Frequency selective phase tracking reference signal (PTRS) allocation. UE measures PTRS in a subset of frequency resources to select phase noise compensation for demodulating BS signals. The subset is chosen based on channel conditions, with the BS indicating the selection in scheduling control information.
Senior Principle Engineer at Ofinno.
Patent №: 12295014 – Sidelink radio link failure based on carrier reselection.
Wireless device monitors sidelink carriers using DTX and CBR thresholds. Triggers carrier reselection when DTX count meets threshold. Selects a new carrier with CBR below the set limit and transmits data via that carrier.
Patent №: 12295011 – Devices for skipping physical downlink control channel monitoring of bandwidth part based on downlink control indication. Wireless device receives config parameters with skip durations for PDCCH monitoring, adjusted by subcarrier spacing. DCI signals when to skip monitoring. Device skips PDCCH monitoring on the bandwidth part for the specified time.
Patent №: 12294957 – Power headroom reporting. A wireless device selects a power headroom value from uplink or sidelink transmissions based on which is scheduled. It then sends a report with the selected power headroom value for the first cell.
Senior design director at Apple.
Patent №: D1073691 – Display screen or portion thereof with graphical user interface.
Patent №: 12293147 – Device, method, and graphical user interface for annotating text.
Displays text in two parts. Upon user input, separates the text to reveal a blank area. Converts that area into a drawing panel, allowing users to draw and view graphics directly within the text layout.
Kim received the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in electrical and computer engineering from Hanyang University, Seoul, South Korea, in 2000, 2002, and 2008, respectively.
Device computes intra- and inter-PRG metrics using cross-correlation of reference signals. Compares their ratio to a threshold to decide the best channel estimation mode for a target resource element. Enhances accuracy based on signal proximity and PRG structure.
