Peter S Gaal

Vice President and Qualcomm Fellow.

Mr. Gaal has been involved in cdma2000 standardization, including physical layer and position location aspects. Since 2007, he has attended 3GPP meetings, first in the RAN4 group and then in the RAN1 group.

Besides participating in each group, he has contributed to the design and development of LTE and 5G NR. The highest degree that Peter Gaal has received is a Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA.

Techniques for beam refinement in wireless communications involve a network entity determining resources for PRACH transmission from a user equipment (UE), performing receive beam sweeping with PRACH repetitions, refining beams based on the results, selecting a refined beam, and using it for subsequent RACH procedure messages with the UE.

Patent №: 12022459 (June 25, 2024) – Sidelink resource configuration for a slot with multiple mini-slots and a feedback channel. Techniques for wireless communication involve a UE determining a sidelink resource configuration for a slot, which includes resources for a PSSCH in the first mini-slot, another PSSCH in the second mini-slot, and a PSFCH for preceding slots. The UE communicates data according to this configuration, which may be transmitted by a sidelink management device.

Patent №: 12022458 (June 25, 2024) – Transmitter direct current subcarrier location indication in wireless communication. A user equipment (UE) reports DC subcarrier location information for supported bandwidth parts (BWPs) and component carriers (CCs). The UE receives a message to activate a specific combination of BWPs and CCs and reports the DC subcarrier location for this combination to the scheduling entity.

Patent №: 12022448 (June 25, 2024) – Carrier switching for multiple carriers using the same components of a component path. Component carriers (CCs) sharing a component chain are switched as groups to mitigate the impact of adjustments in the chain. These switching groups move from default to alternative CCs to compensate for changes in the shared components. Other aspects and features are also described.

Patent №: 12022435 (June 25, 2024) – Radio (NR) sidelink (SL) channel access using virtual collision metric. Wireless communication methods involve a user equipment (UE) selecting resources from a sidelink pool, requesting and receiving availability evaluations, and transmitting a sidelink message based on a virtual collision metric indicating resource availability.

Patent №: 12022366 (June 25, 2024) – Use-case-specific wireless communications-based radar reference signals. Techniques for allocating resources for environment sensing involve a base station transmitting a first radar reference signal (RRS) on resources for a first user equipment (UE) to perform a specific type of sensing, and a second RRS on different resources for a second UE to perform a different type of sensing.

Patent №: 12022307 (June 25, 2024) – Measurement of reference signal with polarization. A user equipment (UE) determines the durations of gaps before and after a reference signal based on its polarization and measures the reference signal using these gaps.

Patent №: 12021797 (June 25, 2024) – Time division duplexing split configuration based on cross-link interference. Aspects of this disclosure relate to wireless communication, where a first network node obtains a TDD split configuration for inter-node interference mitigation based on compatible or non-compatible beam pairs, indicating first and second restriction durations. The node uses this configuration to communicate with user equipment (UE), mitigating inter-node interference.

A non-dropping rule for mini-slot based downlink repetitions involves identifying and receiving non-canceled repetitions, generating acknowledgment feedback, and maintaining a TDRA table with locations of downlink repetitions, ensuring non-decoded repetitions are not dropped.

Mr. Ahn received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering from Yonsei University, Seoul, South Korea, in 1995 and 1997, respectively, and his Ph.D. in electrical and electronics engineering from Yonsei University in 2001.

A method/device for monitoring a downlink control channel in a wireless communication system involves monitoring a PS-PDCCH with power saving information during a DRX-on period, and if detected, monitoring a PDCCH based on it. The PS-PDCCH can indicate a specific search space set and allow skipping PDCCH monitoring for that set.

A method in a wireless communication system involves receiving DCIs indicating scheduling orders and slot groups, receiving downlink data, and transmitting A/N feedback based on the provided scheduling information.

Patent №: 12022479 (June 25, 2024) – Method and device for physical broadcast channel (PBCH) in wireless communication system. A method for a base station to transmit a PBCH in a wireless communication system involves mapping the PBCH to multiple resource elements (REs), and transmitting it to a terminal, where the mapping includes copying PBCH OFDM symbols into an LTE control region based on the frame structure type.

Patent №: 12021772 (June 25, 2024) – Method whereby terminal receives preconfigured uplink resource from base station in wireless communication system, and device for same. A method for a terminal to receive a preconfigured uplink resource from a base station involves receiving the configuration via RRC signaling and, if in idle mode, using 12 subcarriers to transmit uplink data, including a DMRS sequence transmitted on six of these subcarriers.

Patent №: 12022121 (June 25, 2024) – Signaling in transform skip mode. A method for visual media processing involves identifying the coding or intra prediction mode for a video block, and deciding whether to include a syntax element for transform skip mode, where prediction error residuals are encoded without transformation.

Patent №: 12022114 (June 25, 2024) – Context determination for matrix-based intra prediction. A video coding method includes determining if a luma block uses matrix-based intra prediction (MIP), using this to decide the chroma intra mode for a current chroma block, and converting the chroma block to and from its bitstream representation based on this mode.

Patent №: 12022098 (June 25, 2024) – – Neural network-based in-loop filter with residual scaling for video coding. A video coding method involves using a neural network filter on an unfiltered sample to generate and scale a residual, adding another unfiltered sample to the scaled residual to create a filtered sample, and converting between a video file and a bitstream based on the filtered sample.

An apparatus for efficient compression block decoding includes a header parser to extract tokens and length values from the header, and a content-addressable data structure builder to create a data structure with entries for each length value and its frequency.
