Mr. Paniccia received a B.S. in physics from the State University of New York, Binghamton, in 1988, and a Ph.D. in solid-state physics from Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN, in 1994.

He is an Intel Fellow and the Director of the Photonic Technology Laboratory, Intel Corporation, Santa Clara, CA. He also directs a research group and is engaged in developing silicon-based photonic building blocks for future use in enterprise and data center communications.

Dr. Paniccia was the recipient of two Intel Achievement Awards.

Dr. Shao was the fourth Secretary General of the LCD Branch of the China Physics Society, a special expert of panel display in the program of “863”, a national program of science and technology in “the Fifth National Program”, and a visiting professor in Beijing Jiaotong University and Fuzhou University.
