Centurion+ Patent Holders as of April 30, 2024
Welcome to the 30th of April 2024: Our goal is to celebrate the patent holders who have reached noteworthy milestones in their fields this week.

Paul Marinier
Senior Principal Engineer
For his more than two-decade career at InterDigital, Paul Marinier has developed hundreds of patented inventions that can be seen across critical wireless releases, as he helped shape the evolution of features over three generations of wireless systems: 3G HSPA, 4G LTE, and 5G NR.
Paul’s contributions to spectrum aggregation solutions, such as carrier aggregation and dual connectivity, help fully utilize the available resources required to support applications with extremely high data rates. Dual connectivity solutions have proven critical to enabling the first 5G deployments because they allow operators to continue using LTE deployments for connectivity while taking advantage of 5G’s high data rates and reduced latency.
Patent №: 11974316 (April 30, 2024) – Determining and sending channel quality indicators (CQIS) for different cells. A WTRU can send control info, like CQIs, in slots. When a timer expires or it gets an L2 message for one cell, it stops sending CQIs for that cell but keeps sending for others.

Patent №: 11973597 (April 30, 2024) – Systems and methods for improved uplink coverage. This system improves UL transmission reception in challenging scenarios. WTRUs adapt procedures to boost signal energy and efficiently use it. Methods include adjusting HARQ timing, using longer TTIs, dedicated PUSCH allocations, new modulations, enhanced reference signals, UL macro diversity reception, protocol reduction, and coverage/power-limited mode configuration.

Jizheng Xu
Video Coding and Applications.
Mr. Xu received a Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China. In 2003, he joined Microsoft Research Asia, where he is currently a Research Manager. He is an active contributor to ISO/MPEG and ITU-T video coding standards.
His research interests include image and visual signal representation, image/video compression and communication, computer vision, and deep learning.
Patent №: 11973973 (April 30, 2024) – Prediction refinement based on optical flow. This method refines prediction samples in video processing. It modifies a prediction sample at a given position using gradient components and motion displacements estimated at that position. Then, it converts the video block to a bitstream representation using the refined prediction sample and a residue sample value.
Patent №: 11973959 (April 30, 2024) – Quantization parameter for chroma deblocking filtering. This method of video processing decides whether to filter an edge of a chroma video block for conversion to a bitstream. It considers quantization information for neighboring regions based on the coding mode applied to those regions. The rule uses multiple QP offsets at different levels to determine quantization information. Then, it performs the conversion accordingly.
Patent №: 11973931 (April 30, 2024) – Weighted sample bi-prediction in video coding. This method of video processing involves deriving a prediction block for a video block conversion. It utilizes weights to combine two initial prediction blocks. The process includes applying weights to intermediate prediction samples from the initial blocks, performing a right shift operation on the result, and then determining the prediction block.

Jing Lei
Senior Staff Engineer at Qualcomm.

Patent №: 11974256 (April 30, 2024) – Scheduling and bandwidth part adaptation techniques for extended reality. A method performed by a UE involves receiving an indication to adjust either the minimum control-channel-to-data-channel delay or the bandwidth for receiving a transmission on a BWP. The UE then makes the necessary changes and receives the transmission on the BWP with the adjusted delay or bandwidth.

Kenneth Jason Sanchez
Data science leader.
Expert in building and leading data science teams for Silicon Valley startups as well as Fortune 40 companies. Jason has built and deployed machine learning models in highly regulated industries, as well as marketing models, retention models, fraud detection models, and demand forecasting models.
Patent №: 11971262 (April 30, 2024) – Systems and methods for generating scenic routes.
This system generates scenic routes and identifies safe parking near scenic points based on driver preferences and historical data. A mobile app selects scenic route segments between origin and destination locations, considering numerous scenic points identified from driver telemetry and POI data.
Patent №: 11969653 (April 30, 2024) – Systems and methods for generating virtual characters for a virtual game. This system generates virtual characters based on real-world driving data. It receives telematics data from users, determines their driving characteristics, and generates virtual characters accordingly. The characters are then presented in a virtual game.
