Prolific inventors in India include Homi J Bhabha (1909 – 1966), who led nuclear research in the country and created the first atomic energy research centre, now known as Bhabha Atomic Research Centre; Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose( 1858 – 1937), a pioneer in the investigation of radio microwave optics, made significant contributions to botany; Sir Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray (1861 – 1944), he is regarded as the Father of Indian Chemistry, discovered Mercury nitrite, a yellow-like solid compound that is slightly soluble and reactive; Salim Ali (1896 – 1987), a naturalist who helped develop Ornithology, also known as the “birdman of India”; Srinivasa Ramanujan (1887 – 1920), he made substantial contributions to mathematical analysis, number theory, infinite series, and continued fractions; Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman (1888 – 1970), he studied light scattering.
