Welcome to February 4, 2025. This week, we aim to celebrate the centurion patentors who have reached noteworthy milestones in their fields.

Vice President and Qualcomm Fellow.

Initially, he has been involved in cdma2000 standardization, including physical layer and position location aspects. Since 2007, he has been attending 3GPP meetings, first in the RAN4 group and then in the RAN1 group.

Besides participation in each group, Dr. Gaal has been contributing to the design and development of LTE and 5G NR. The highest degree that Peter Gaal has received is a Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA.

Patent №: 12219509 – Secondary cell activation using temporary reference signals. A user equipment (UE) receives an activation command for a second cell, measures a temporary reference signal, and operates based on the measurement, reducing activation delays.

Patent №: 12219507 – Periodic tracking reference signals for sidelink communications. This disclosure relates to wireless communication for sidelink UEs. A first sidelink UE receives a tracking reference signal (TRS) periodicity indicator, synchronizes with a second sidelink UE using the TRS, and receives a physical sidelink shared channel (PSSCH) communication.
